Some pointers about the Tracking SS
> Check if you have editing access to the 'books' and 'BOM' tabs. If not kindly request access on the sheet.
> In the books tab, fill the details of the book you are planning to read.
> Please add the hyperlink to the book.
> Ensure that the edition is the same on the SS and your shelf as the one you're reading and the page number matches the edition.
> Update the tracking SS with the completion date once you have finished the book.
> In case you are unable to edit in the SS, please put up a completion post with the book name and 'read date' in this thread. One of the captains will update the SS.
> Please just put the number of the mini task that you want to claim in book tab column F. It automatically fills in the details on Mini tab.

Ushashi (ushashib) | 567 comments May Mini Challenge:

Rules:
◈ Only books read and finished from the start of the challenge until 9pm GMT+1 on 31st May will count for the challenge.
◈ You will gain 5 points for each task you complete.
◈ For each Muse you complete all the tasks for, you get an additional 10 points.
◈ You may only complete each task once.

How a "spell it out" works
◈ Spell out the word(s) using the first letter in the book's title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter of the series name.
◈ If the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.
◈ If you are listening to an audiobook, the first letter in the narrator's first or last name also can be used.
◈ Translator's names are also allowed, as long as the edition you are reading is a translated version.

Please follow the SS for the list of tasks

Ushashi (ushashib) | 567 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Ushashi, from India. I'll be your captain for this challenge. This is my second Tower Teams and first nbrc challenge as captain, so please bear with me. I've been hooked to team challenges for past two years, thanks to my GR friend Alyana, who also happens to be on our team (Hi Alyana!!!). I also know Leslie from the last TT. Everyone else is new to me, and I'm so excited to know you all.

A brief intro about me: I am a PhD student in my final year. I work on tuberculosis and Covid. If things go right I should be submitting my thesis before the end of this challenge. I read different genres, mostly literary fiction, historical fiction, dystopia, thriller etc. And I'm always open to new book suggestions. I love reading paper copies, but due to lack of time, most of my 'reading' nowadays has become audiobooks.

Please introduce yourselves below in as much detail as you feel comfortable with. Also please check Comment #5 for the tracking sheet (that we will use to track all our readings) link and see if you can access it. Also, please check if your shelf link takes to the correct page and if I have not added it, please post the link to it in your message.

Let's have a blast!!

Ashlee | 645 comments Hi Team,

I'm Ashlee from Pennsylvania, USA. I am a middle school Special Education Reading teacher. I am addicted to reading challenges since I tried Uno 7 years ago.

I will pretty much read any genre, but I lean more towards mystery, romance, and young adult.

message 19: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Hi everyone!!

I'm Vikki from Northern Ireland. I've lost count of how many tower teams I've been in (and how many wheelathons). I love these team challenges.

I work a few jobs, mainly in marketing, but my background is actually in law. May & June are busy months as I'm also an exam invigilator and they're exam months.

I've been a bookworm all my life. My favourite genres are crime & thriller (probably explains why I worked in criminal law!) but I also read historical fiction, fantasy, paranormal, chick lit, classics or anything that sounds interesting.

Ushashi - your research sounds like it would be very interesting especially given everything that's been going on in the world the past 2 years. Good luck with your thesis.

message 20: by Ushashi (new)

Ushashi (ushashib) | 567 comments Welcome to the team Ashlee and Vikki. It's great to have challenge veterans in the group.

message 21: by Alisha (new)

Alisha | 329 comments Hi! My name's Alisha and I'm from Ohio, USA. I'm a youth services librarian. I do a lot of reading and I'm open to reading most genres. This is my first tower challenge but I did the wheel of wheels last year. Looking forward to it!

message 22: by Christina (last edited May 02, 2022 02:50PM) (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments Hello everyone,

I'm Christina (she/her), from Austria and one of your co-captains. I've done many o' team challenges in the last couple of years and must have joined my first one around the same time Ashlee did, maybe the year before that (also uno ;)) they're really heckin' addictive!

My reading is a bit complicated, a lot of genres (or page numbers lol) intimidate me, but I'll try nearly everything for BOM points haha! Gotta get as many of those as possible to give us an extra push *rubs hands together*
I do however really like mysteries, thrillers, and contemporary, and generally enjoy anything with good rep, whether it'd be poc, health, lgbtqia+ etc.

As I can see there are a few familiar faces around, and also some new ones *waves*
If you have any questions just ask away as I'm sure there'll be at least one of us (co-) captains around most of the time :) Let's have a blast!

message 23: by Sana (new)

Sana Zameer (sanazameer) | 798 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Sana and I'm from Pakistan. I've two teenage sons and both share my passion for books and music.

I read all genres but my favorites are paranormal and fantasy. This is my second TT and I love the theme of Greek mythology. Also MUSE is the name of my favorite rock band.
Really looking forward to reading with you all!

message 24: by CB (new)

CB (cb33) | 404 comments Hi everyone! I’m CB and this is my first Tower Teams challenge, but I love a good team challenge and am greatly looking forward to it.

I live in Ohio as well and work in the financial industry. My favorite genres to read are Urban Fantasy, paranormal, fantasy romance, and contemporary.

message 25: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Hi! I'm Suzanne and am so excited to get to know all of you. I already feel like this is going to be such a fun team!

I live in Idaho and teach math at the university here. I am currently in class with a lot of my students as they are taking a final exam - I'm so proud of them, as they have worked so hard all semester. And...when the semester is over - I'm retiring! I'm looking forward to having more choices about what to do with my time!

I enjoy most genres. Probably during Tower Teams I'll be reading a lot of science fiction and fantasy because I decided I wanted to vote in and attend the Hugo awards at Worldcon. We'll see how that goes...but seemed like a good idea at the time.

Oh and I absolutely love that we have team members from all over the globe. It's wonderful!

message 26: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments How soon can we start adding books to the tracking sheet? Yeah... I'm enthusiastic!

message 27: by Leslie Ann (last edited May 02, 2022 04:46PM) (new)

Leslie Ann | 941 comments Hi, I am Leslie from Colorado. I am retired but somehow I manage to be busier than when I worked. Hmmm, maybe I have a bad case of fomo. Nice to see some old friends from other challenges. I also love that we have a very international group. I love challenges. Currently I listen to more audio books than read, I have a new Cricut machine and I have been busy making crafts.I love reading all your intros , we have an awesome team! Ohh… I love Ted Lasso . Believe : ) .

message 28: by bamaace83 (new)

bamaace83 | 965 comments Hey everyone! I'm Anna and live in the Louisville KY area. I work in a healthcare clinic and am usually on evenings and weekends. I am able to pop-in at times during the week but it's hit and miss. I also go to the gym 5-6 times a week before work so I usually am in bed by 9:30 eastern time because I get up at 4:30. I'm married and we have one dog, who truly thinks he's a human not an animal.

I've been on several different team challenges and I think this is my 3rd tower, but I've done a few wheels, a bunch of uno's, and a ton of other things. Romance, suspense, and contemporary are where I tend to navigate towards first. Those cute hockey boys usually draw me in. I'm not that big on sci-fi but I can make anything work if I need to. I usually always have an audio and an e-book going at the same time. I'm in the car up to 2 hours everyday and I listen to books on pretty fast speeds. I'm looking forward to playing with everyone. :)

message 29: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3008 comments LESLIE ANN!! Ted Lasso is the best! But when I'm currently not into reading, Ted Lasso is mostly to blame for that *hides* I've been to London recently, super spontaneously and on my own, spending quite a bit of time in Richmond, and even met and got to take a photo with Jason Sudeikis and Nick Mohammed (who plays Nate) while they were filming in Notting Hill! I had such a great time!

Vikki, technically you could start already, all you need to do is request editing rights to the tracking sheet first everyone!

Hi everyone! I'm Alyana from Queens, NY. Originally from the Philippines. I'm a mother of a 7 year old, I was a full time mom for 7 years and just got back to the working world. This is my second tower teams and Ushashi was right, I'm partly at fault for getting her hooked to team challenges.

More about me, I read different genres but mostly psycho-thrillers, mysteries, crime, romance and occasionally historical fiction. Not much of a fan of sci-fi-fantasy/dystopia but if needed, always willing to give it a shot. I usually do audiobooks which makes my reading faster. I am also addicted with any challenge I can join here in Goodreads and earning some buttons!

Ushashi, your work sounds interesting and intimidating at the same time. Good luck with your thesis.

Alisha, I just started working at the library this year as a page and I am loving it! I can listen to books while working. Hoping to be a librarian when my kid gets older.

Christina, some tasks intimidate me but I will try everything to earn BOM points too! haha. Ted Lasso is also on my watchlist but due to many books and other shows that I'm watching, I am having a hard time to start this one. 😁

It's so nice to virtually meet everyone from different parts of the world! I'm so excited to start!

Char | 96 comments Heyy!!

I'm Charanya and I'm from India too. I'm 19 years old and I'm currently studying in college

I'm gonna be one of your co-captains, though this is my first ever reading challenge in NBRC

I usually read all genres, but I do love me some Fantasy, Romance and Horror. I've just started out on Same Sex Romances (MM , FF) , so I'm a newbie on that front

Glad to see we are from such different parts of the world. And, of different age groups. Can't wait for this challenge to start!

Oh, and, most importantly, let's have fun!!

message 33: by Renata (new)

Renata Silveira | 87 comments Hi,

I'm Renata, I live in Brazil and I'm studying English at university. This will be my 3rd team challenge here. My first was tt8 and it was really fun so I was anxiously waiting for another tower teams!
I try to read all genres, but my favourite is fantasy.
Usually, I don't write much because I'm a very quiet person, but I try to participate, and I definitely read everything that you guys post here. 😊

Ushashi (ushashib) | 567 comments Hi everyone! It's great to have you all on board. I am loving how many different countries we are from here.

@Alisha and Alyana, working in a library sounds like a dream job.
@Suzanne, attending the HUGO awards!!! Wow!
@Renata, it's absolutely fine if you don't want to write much. We just want you to have fun (and just check in sometimes!).
@Vikki and everyone, you can start putting books in the tracking sheet. I have modified the access, but in case anyone still cannot edit the books and BOM tabs, please request access.

message 35: by Ushashi (new)

Ushashi (ushashib) | 567 comments A note about the BOMs

The first BOM for the challenge is The Travelling Cat Chronicles, starting 16th May. If it looks interesting to you, do think of giving it a shot. Also, if you are so inclined, you can volunteer to write DQs. We can have up to 6 entries (including tokens) as a team.

Also, if any of you have participated in any BOMs since January 2022, you will have 1 participation token for each BOM you took part in. Please put down those details in the BOM tab of the tracking sheet.

Such a great book. I read it for Wheel 5 because that's the team I was on. Have a map of Japan ready.

message 39: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Oh thank you! That's great to know - both the map and that it's good

message 40: by megan (new)

megan | 1492 comments I'm megan. I live in Indianapolis, IN (US) with a chicken nugget shaped pit bull and a geriatric cat. During the day I am an engineer in the aviation industry. I work mostly with commercial jet engines, like those used on passenger jet airliners flown by Emirates, Air France, Delta, etc.
I think this is my fourth TT challenge. I'm not a picky reader. I tend to gravitate toward mysteries/thrillers and non-fiction. I'm a fan of classics as well, but usually can't read them fast enough for a reading challenge. I'll gladly hunt and read for the difficult tasks.

Alyana, you have a choice to make. Either you watch Ted Lasso now - it's really quick and easy to get through (although tw for (view spoiler)) and I promise you will LOVE IT!! - or you wait until s3 (possibly its last season) is out at the end of the year and then binge the whole thing in one go. Either way it's gonna be great but just know that appletv will only release one episode a week which is gonna be realllll hard for me lol.

It was my husband who mentioned it to me that Ted Lasso was good and he wants to try it too so I gathered all my sources to get the first season haha. We'll probably start it before the summer. I don't mind waiting because I am not a binge watcher like I can stop watching an episode and continue it the next day. Okay, enough of me now, I talk too much. 🙈😁😂

message 44: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments You for sure don't talk to much Alyana! I love when teams chat.

And I am now intrigued about Ted Lasso. I've watched almost nothing for the past 10 years or so when I've been teaching- so I have lots of catching up to do.

Odd question: do you get any flyer benefits since you work in the industry?

message 49: by Zuza (new)

Zuza | 168 comments Hi guys!

I am so excited to be joining this challenge 🤗. I think I have only done few team challenges before and I really enjoyed it and this will be my second participation in TT challenge.

My name is Zuzana. I am from Czechia (or The Czech Republic), I live near Prague. I work in a bank.

My favorite genres are anything YA and Mystery, but if a synopsis sounds interesting enough, I am sure to put that book on my never-ending TBR 📚.

I consider myself to be a mood reader, even though I am perfectly capable of planing what books I want to read in an upcoming month, I usually never get to them and instead pick a different book 😊.

Lately a have been hooked on audiobooks, it's amazing how you can do other things while reading 😁.

Can't wait for this challenge to start!
