Truitt_T | 801 comments Question- if I’m reading the rules correctly, either the themed BOM or the general adult may be nonfiction, right? Do NF books get select as the BOM often, or is it better to nominate fiction?

And I’d be happy to support A Master of Djinn - I was planning to read it for TT anyway.😁

Natasha | 1140 comments I'm almost done Thicker Than Water: The Quest for Solutions to the Plastic Crisis (205 reading pages). And I was planning to read Profit and Punishment: How America Criminalizes the Poor in the Name of Justice (188 reading pages) this weekend before TT starts.

Lexi, I can get behind that nomination for Sea. It’s already on my tbr list

Truitt,

NF are often nominated, one or so per group, but they usually don’t win the vote. But nominate whatever you think will be a good read. Often I add books to my tbr list from the nominations

Truitt, I moved my vote to yours as the only one I want to read in the top three options

I moved mine to Truitt’s as well. But I have a feeling we are going back to Dino island for a 3rd time.

I’ll be DQ tribute if it wins. Lol

I won't so it is all yours

message 209: by Colleen (new)

Colleen | 238 comments I started Ready Player Two earlier this week and really wish I had waited since I'm only to page 50 - I hope it picks up and I get more into it. Not as highly rated as the first one, which I read years ago, so adding to the problem.

I've been meaning to read The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life so I'll probably read that quick to get me going.

Thank you , Lexi and Judith, for moving your votes - I really don't want to read a third in a series Dino book! A friend on another team let me know she voted for my book over her own in the hope of avoiding Dino Island.

I just took a look and it's 12-11, so we're only down by one. If anyone else is interested in voting, this would be a good time!

Backroom BOM Poll:
https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

The book I nominated is Wildfire by Sam Burns. It's fairly short and is available on KU. I suspect it's pretty tame compared to some of the other nominees.

message 211: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments I've been looking over what everyone has been reading and it appears there's quite a range. I keep being reminded of how safe and easy I've let my reading become over the last few years. I suspect I'll be adding quite a few books to my tbr as I see what's read during TT.

I voted for Wildfire... Lexi's book isn't available on Amazon India's website. Funnily, they have books 2, 2.5 and 3 but not 1 🤔

Kate S | 1998 comments I don't see any information about Non-Fiction for the Muse mini-challenge. I am going to read The Death of Democracy: Hitler's Rise to Power and the Downfall of the Weimar Republic this week or next. If I remember correctly, I can only use the title or author for the spell-it-out portions. Is this still true?

message 219: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7436 comments Mod
That’s correct. And for the title you can use either the T (The) or D (Death).

Thank you. Another question, can I include the sub-title and use this book for Task 84: a book with CLD in the title?

message 222: by Judith (new)

Yes, since it pops up for the title on GoodReads

If we've got a book that needs a page count update, where's the best place to ask?

message 228: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7436 comments Mod
Post it here (the edition in question and a link to something that shows what the page number should be).

there is a place in the captains group to ask for GR librarian help

Thanks! I figured it would come up sooner or later, and sometimes the page count difference is substantial.

I don't really plan my reading, either. I tend to read what I'm in the mood for - or what I need for a Challenge. I've created a list of books I might read, but there's no telling what I will read.

I do the same thing. I have come up with a long list of books I'd like to try and get to at some time during the challenge. The only reason I make the list is to narrow down my options otherwise my exceedingly large TBR can overwhelm me at times.

Yay Truitt! Your nomination won for the Backroom BOM. This means we have guaranteed DQs for this as well.

Your set is for May 22 (day 1). Let us know if this might be an issue!

Woohoo! I did NOT expect that to happen! The 22nd will be fine - I work that day, but I'll just post my DQs in the morning.

I have to admit that I'm a little nervous about writing the DQs, lol. I just hope the book isn't too tame for the BOM crowd.

Natasha | 1140 comments Congrats Truitt!!

I hate when I'm reading a book and the page numbers are different from the book in hand. It's even worse since I'm a cataloger and pagination is one of the things I double check. I know I could ask for it to be corrected, but I always wish I could correct it myself.

Truitt_T | 801 comments Judith -

Any idea when the DQ Chapter breakdown will be posted? Due to a busy latter half of the week, I'm going to go ahead and read Wildfire tonight. I'd like to write my DQs tomorrow. Given the number of pages (232), would basing my DQs on the chapters encompassing the first 50 pages or so be about right? Should I be asking this somewhere else?

Thanks!

message 239: by Truitt_T (new)

Truitt_T | 801 comments And thank you, Natasha and Rebecca! I've only read one other book by this author, Sam Burns, but I have several friends who are huge fans. I hope you'll be reading, too!
Back Room BOM Wildfire

Natasha - The incorrect page number issue irks me a bit, but I never went to much effort to get corrections made. Then earlier this year I was involved with a challenge, like this one, where total pages read were critical. You could use the page count from any Kindle edition, so our team captain made a point of double checking amazon for the current edition. It made a huge difference in our point totals. The first book I finished for TT needed a page count update - it was 219 vs 296. One of the Librarians in the MM group got it done for me. :)

I’m thinking with that number of pages Cat will probably do 4 days putting each day at 58 pages.

I’m assuming you are reading it on KU. So when you hit the ~25% mark/58 pages finish whatever chapter you are on and that will be a good guess at your section.

Enjoy your reading time, though.

I'm glad so many folks are willing to read Wildfire. It doesn't look too painful, lol.

Preeti wrote: "Hi. For the task, Poetry quote in the text, can it be in the prologue/intro to the book?"

Yes as long as it's part of the story. So yes to prologue but I would say no if it was in a forward written by someone not the author of the actual book.
