It's all good -- just preventative. But still a little tedious. :)

Melissa | 1895 comments Another bull for us all..
Cretan Bull

The Cretan Bull has been spotted running amok across your lands destroying defensive walls and crops alike. He is hard to defeat and really should of been sacrificed as the gods intended. Also, not opposed to participating in some marriage infidelity. So there may be some surprises popping out 9 months from now.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 350 and 450 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book with a white cover.
3.) Read a book where something physical is destroyed (e.g., building burning down and not a relationship being ruined).
4.) Read a book where the MC ignores important advice.
5.) Read a book with a 7 in the page count.

How's this book coming along :) Now that we have another bull to slay!

Melissa | 1895 comments Nevermind! I still need to read Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

message 810: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Good grief, I’ve read it. Time for a refresher.

message 811: by Teresa (last edited Jul 04, 2022 07:24AM) (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I guess it depends on how strict they are. Tiny Labs says it's mostly grey but I would count it as most of the books on the white cover lists are pale shades of grey not totally white

message 812: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Sweet. My friend has been wanting me to read it for a while now.

message 813: by Briana (last edited Jul 04, 2022 07:31AM) (new)

Briana (bookishmi) | 181 comments I completed a white cover book yesterday with Frost Burned that can fill that task if no one else has one ready to go.

And I should have The Rage of Dragons completed today. As I only have about 300 pages left.

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Briana wrote: "I completed a white cover book yesterday with Frost Burned that can fill that task if no one else has one ready to go."

I'd go for it!! Sooner we take it down, sooner we get a new one!!

message 815: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments Do we have a short book in the works? If not I can knock one out today.

message 816: by Melissa (last edited Jul 04, 2022 07:37AM) (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Perfect!
I'll get rid of the body :)

Not officially. Stacy might work on one, but she was totally fine if someone else got there first.

Melissa | 1895 comments Cerberus

Cerberus has decided to take a jaunty run through your lands before returning to the underworld. He's very hard to defeat, don't let those 6 puppy dog eyes fool you. May want to bring some milk bones and tennis balls.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book where a funerary celebration/service takes place.
3.) Read a book with MPG Music.
4.) Read a book with a musical instrument on the cover.
5.) Read a book that is #3 in a series.

See if there are any funerals in that Rage of Dragons :)

message 822: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I have a 1.5 hour wait to get lab work, so I should be able to knock the short out soon. :)

I know I have things for Cerberus but not at home so can’t reference my spreadsheet to see.

I do believe there was a funeral in the first few chapters, let me check and I'll post if there is.

message 824: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments I can take tasks #1 and #2 for Cerberus with my 512 page book, The Art of Fielding. In the book one of the 5 MCs dies and there is a funeral.
I should finish it by tomorrow, or no later than Wednesday.

message 825: by Briana (new)

Briana (bookishmi) | 181 comments We can bank Rage of Dragons if Nanci finishes first. There have been mentions of funerals in what I've read so far but neither one was more than a mention of the MC being able to attend the bodies burning which then happened off page. I'll keep an eye out in the remaining pages but I don't have much hope either.

message 826: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Sounds good, Briana. I'm flexible. I think it's most important to get the monsters killed ASAP.

message 827: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments Is there a maximum number of monsters we can slay? Or is it just until we run out of time?

message 828: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments Nevermind, I guess it is as many as we can. I took a sneaky look at some other teams sheets and some of them have slayed 50 monsters!

I'm about to begin a 650 page-ish book. Some of the books I have saved from Audible plus are leaving it on the 27th so I'm trying to squeeze in what I can. Most of them are long books though (800+ pages). So once I have done this one, I will start one of those long ones. I can do some shorter books if we specific ones, but most of you seem to prefer the shorter books so I thought I would tackle a few longer ones.

Melissa | 1895 comments Our new beast!
Scylla

Scylla has been spotted close to your shores and endangering ships heading for the harbor. Very hard to defeat and best to avoid if possible, is very touchy when Circe is mentioned.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book with a body of water on the cover.
3.) Read a book that features a sacrifice of some type (your interpretation).
4.) Read a book that features a sorceress.
5.) Read a book whose title contains the word "FIRE".

message 833: by Melissa (new)

message 834: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 1813 comments I am reading Moby Dick (on my phone so I can't link) and it will cover task 1, 2 (the sea) and maybe 3. It seems like the sort of book where someone/something is sacrificed by the end.

message 835: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Sorry I have been MIA. We had a bbq and board game night at our house and stuff going on at the lodge. Then yesterday we binge watched Stranger Things.

I'll do some spreadsheet updating and see what monster categories we need.

message 836: by Mary X (last edited Jul 05, 2022 05:56AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I read a book of short stories over the weekend that fills one of the "between 500-650" pages task. Read a lot of it while waiting for fireworks last night since we got there 2.5 hours early in order to get parking. Ooh it also fits the instrument on cover. The Faery on the cover is playing a flute.

message 837: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments A Shattered Silver Crown features a sorceress, but it also has a few more obscure tasks covered so we may want to save it.

Fabulous. We were short some 500 pagers.

message 842: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments Argus

Argus has been seen on your lands with a case of the dry-eyes. Very hard to kill but can be distracted with white cows. He is vigilant and a great bodyguard as he doesn't need to sleep by only resting a few eyes at a time. Enjoys a good olive, may look for him taking a respite in an olive tree grove.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book with at least 2 pairs of eyes visible on cover.
3.) Read a book with a rock on the cover.
4.) Read a book with character works in protective profession (e.g., police, security guard, bodyguard).
5.) Read a book with "olive" found in text.

Wow!
How is it, reading it on your phone? I have not been brave enough to tackle that one yet.

message 844: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments That 500 - 650 page limit is a weird one. It looks like a few folks are in those books now, so that will help! I picked up a Poldark book, which usually flies by quickly - 500 some odd pages.

message 845: by Teresa (last edited Jul 05, 2022 08:18AM) (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I have two pairs of eyes covered and olive (although the olive book is also #6 in a series, should we hold on to that?)

I also have a book that fits the body guard but it is an 800+pg book so we may want to hold off on it.

message 846: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1895 comments I'm not sure. It's such a gamble! I think we should get what we can get when we can get it:) I could always read a Janet Y. #6 book. It doesn't seem as though you have to read them in order?

message 847: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I haven't read any of those so I'm not sure, but I think so.

I'll add my book to the spreadsheet :D

message 848: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments ooh... Looking through I also have task 4 -police officer... I'll add that too

That leaves 500-650 pgs and rock on cover

message 849: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I just finished the Princess Trap which has a major character that's the bodyguard of the MC. If you want to put that in there. No "olive" in text according to Amazon search. Also one person has eyes closed on cover.

message 850: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I'm about halfway through a 590 page book. I can try to finish it today, maybe tomorrow if we still need one -- I've lost track over the last few days. :)
