Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Alison, it shows as Read for Free with Kindle Unlimited. Can you do a free trial to read it?

Andrea (pilaryk2) | 182 comments Hi, Haley said she finished her book for the maze but she can't upload it. Just in case someone can help her out

Hey Alison!

This popped up in my feed and I know the answer so figured I'd pop in to see if you still needed one.

You can read 6 before 5. It actually takes place before book 5 actually. Or the time overlaps.

message 554: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Hey Judith, thanks for stopping in with the answer. That's fab. I love this series so really didn't want to have to wait months to read it. The library wait lists are ridiculous

message 555: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Thanks Steven, unfortunately it's not included in Kindle unlimited in the UK. I've had most of the series sitting in my Amazon wishlist for years and it never comes down in price (they're pretty expensive for novellas) or comes up on KU. Not sure if it's a different publisher or something.

Once you've looked, just put any questions here and I'll do my best to help.

BOTM - this folder has links to all the discussions. You don't have to write the questions to get points, but you do have to answer the questions other people have written with 1 momth of the start date (i.e. before 16th June for travelling cat).

Maybe try using a VPN and set your location to the US to see if you can get it through KU? There are some free ones available online. I know it works for streaming, but I don't use KU, so I'm not sure if it would work with that, but it is worth a try.

Task: Read a book whose author (first or last) starts with B

Directions:

West (recommended) - Odd # of pages
North - title starts with A-M

One that might be filled by luck!

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
Well everyone is moving the maze on v quickly!

Task: Read a book that has a map (e.g. pages usually at the start of a book with a drawing of the world. NOT the word "map") I believe this includes map on the cover as a suitable book for this task.

Directions: Title must start with N-Z.

message 566: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5687 comments Mod
new task image

Task: Read a book first published on the 17th of a month

South N-Z
East even page number

Either would be good.

And thanks Andrea and everyone else who are putting their books forward and reading for this.

message 567: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments The Maze is possibly moving too fast for me. I've been keeping an eye on the thread but none of the books I'm reading have fit and I'm not fast enough to read specifically for a task. I will try to hang off finishing the couple of books I started this month in hopes they'll fit some task that comes up.

message 568: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments yeah that's basically where i'm at too. i'm still holding onto the last chapter of when the night bells ring in case though lol and i'm also reading another non fiction book so that will be easy to stop a bit early as well

message 569: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (pilaryk2) | 182 comments The maze has been crazy, I am also keeping an eye out to see if any of the books I am reading work or to find short books that I migh be able to listen quickly.
Hopefully we won't reach a dead end.

message 570: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Hope everyone is doing well! I’m reading an Ilona Andrews book to try to jump start my reading mojo again. It’s a reread, which works for my individual maze, but also prepares me to read book two which I’ve wait on for two years and then the ARC of book three, which I’m super pumped about.

I also have to read Locklands at some point before the release date later this month but not at all in the mood for it. :( I really liked the first two so hopefully once I get farther into it, I’ll get caught up. *fingers crossed*

message 571: by Missy (new)

Missy (missy_reading89) I need to read Locklands this month too, but I really need to reread the first two before I jump into it. I am currently in the middle of three books enjoying all of them but life has kept me busy with getting my mom ready to start her chemo treatments tomorrow hopefully will have more time to read later this week.

Sorry for the relative quiet from me over the weekend - my mother-in-law has been staying which hasn't left much time for GR.

Maze: Thanks for holding books and keeping an eye on it for whenever you might be able to help. It's moving fast than I expected it would. I used to be able to read at a rate that would be possible to take part, but I can't get the blocks of time any more.

Task: Read a book where a pet name starts with the letter L

Direction: North (Title starts with A-M) or West (Odd Number of pages)

Steven: Yay for favourite authors to kick start reading enthusiasm again. Hopefully Ilona will work their magic.

Missy: I hope everything goes smoothly for your mum this week. Glad you have 3 good books on the go to occupy your brain a bit.

Mia Anti | 158 comments Hi! Sorry for my week long absence. Been busy with exams.
Is all the books i've read since 1. june eligible for the maze or do i have to finish it after we get a task?

For the maze the book has to be completed after we receive the task. Every book that you have finished since June 1st can be added to the spreadsheet to get our team points for the books.

Navi (nvsahota) | 730 comments Hi Captains! I took a look at the final Cassandra SS and noticed that my BOM participation was not accounted for (The Travelling Cat Chronicles). I'm not sure if there is a BOM participation cap for each team but just wanted to let you all know :)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Thanks for letting us know Navi. One of us will check that.

Did you link your comments for us to add to the spreadsheet? Can you do that for us please? That way we don’t have to go through multiple pages looking for your comments to mark as evidence for participation

message 580: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Checking in! I've finished the first BOM which was ok, I'm planning to read the next BOM as well but wanted to squeeze a couple of other books before that but didn't really know what I was in the mood for so in the end I went with something trashy. I'm 1/4 in and already know it's not going to be a favourite but for some kind of reason I can't stop reading!

message 581: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Fyi - the July BOMs have been revealed, they are :

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Ariadne by Jennifer Saint

Those weren't the ones I voted for but might join Ariadne.

On a sidenote; I'm puzzled why Malibu Rising is shelved as "historical fiction" on the main page genre when it supposedly takes place in the 80's...

message 582: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments people are routinely tagging things set in the 80s and 90s as historical fiction now and i'm just like NO! lol

message 583: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I can't remember what I voted for but those seem like good choices. I've read Malibu Rising and really enjoyed it and Ariadne is on my tbr. Unfortunately my mum has my copy of Malibu Rising as I would happily do a re read

message 584: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments And yes apparently the 80's are now "historical" :D

I am not happy about this either

well, i'm guessing WW2 books were classified as "historical fiction" in the 80s, so makes sense that the 80s are historical now :P

kinda sad my pick for YA didn't win, I nominated The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea , really wanted an incentive to finally start reading it.

but adrianne is on my TBR, so i'll join that one.

message 589: by Insiyah (last edited Jun 07, 2022 09:24AM) (new)

Insiyah (insiyahxo) | 609 comments I need to rant about how bad a book is, so feel free to skip/not read this.

I'm reading The Client, and wow. Just wow. You know the basic writing rule of "Show, not tell"? Well, this author just shows. "She was proud of herself for...." I'm halfway though, and it's getting downright painful to read this. And then there's the egoism. Everyone thinks they are amazing, asskicking badasses. Spoiler alert - they are not. They are all fucking idiots. And they all hate each other. I get it. Every single reader gets it with one fucking line. We do NOT NEED TWO PAGES EXPLAINING THIS! And then there are sentences like "he walks importantly..." and "she put the plate majestically". How does a person walk importantly? Or serve a dinner plate majestically? Why is the language here so odd?!

The protagonist is an eleven year old kid, except half the time he sounds like he's right, and the other half he sounds like he's forty. There are moments where he's crying because someone threatened him (great, that makes sense), and then he gives a big speech with big words about how tired he is of this, and how his friends are doing this and that at school and he's being followed by the mob. Also, he is obsessed with the mob and lawyers and FBI from movies. What happened to common sense for someone portrayed as so street smart?

Okay, rant over. But seriously - I used to love John Grisham a few years ago, and now I can't stand him.

message 590: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I love reading a good book rant, so feel free to rant away.

It's been donkeys years since I read a Grisham. Can't remember why I stopped but was probably because they all became a bit samey (and weren't that great).

Do you have to finish it? I'd be tempted to DNF it if I were you. Too many good books out there to spend time on a bad one.

message 591: by Insiyah (new)

Insiyah (insiyahxo) | 609 comments I am very, very tempted to DNF, but it's 458 pages which is good for this challenge, and it's for two other challenges as well. So I've to suffer through.

message 592: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments The Client was a much better movie than book! Lol

message 593: by Audrey Jane (new)

Haha, indeed! I refuse to acknowledge it. I'm not ready to be part of the historical fiction category just yet haha

@Mia: Makes sense. It seems the time limit is roughly a generation. I guess I will have to live with that...

Missy - how is your mum doing?

Mia - I hope the exams weren't too awful and you are able to relax now.

Audrey Jane- sometimes trash is the only way to go! You know it isn't going to be a favourite but it just hits the spot you need it to.

Bleurgh I don't want to think about 80s and 90s being historical fiction. I suppose it's anything written and set in a time in the past so technically things set in 2000 to 2010 would be historical fiction too.

message 597: by Mia (new)

Mia Anti | 158 comments Steven: Yeah, sorry it's just so easy to add books as you go along on the app. So much more work to get the computer and turn it on to put the books into the spreadsheet :P

Sophie: Yes, thank you! I got top remarks on all of them, so that was nice! turns out you become a better student with age ^^

Currently reading for the maze for the first time! Speed/stress reading like my life depended on it. Although, if I weren't reading this book I would have DNF a few hours ago. Not liking this book at all,,, Norwegian Wood
