Papaphilly | 5045 comments Any thoughts about him and DOGE?

Publicly, I'm in a wait-and-see mode on whether Congress significantly amends the budget. It is their job.

Privately, I'm wondering if Elon and Hegseth are going to show up at my place of employment, demanding receipts. (Military contractor)

message 307: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments Yeah. What the Democrats don't understand is that DOGE serves in an advisory capacity. Congress has to approve the budget.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments The explosion today was bad, but it was a test. I'm wondering, though, if the astronauts in the Space Station will be coming home.

message 309: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan It looks like X is down as of 30 minutes ago.

Someone's mounting an attack upon it.

Graeme Rodaughan Back now...

J. Gowin | 7991 comments The most notable aspect of the outage was it being an international news story. There are levels of power evident in that fact which should terrify.

Now called out by Musk as a co-ordianted DDOS attack.

J. Gowin | 7991 comments If Musk really is the Bond villain which the Dems think he is, those hackers will find themselves staked down beneath a rocket launch pad.

By the way, congratulations to Space Daddy upon the birth of his 14th child.🎉👶

Mr. Musk, I know you view population decline as an existential threat, but you don't have to fight it by yourself.

Nik Krasno | 19860 comments Elon can offer Navarro an octagon fight to substitute Mark: https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-...

message 318: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments I couldn't read that one without providing my email.

Don’t know how true, but I’m not surprised that ego is stronger than love for freedoms

message 320: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19860 comments Looks like Elon is not overly excited with "big, beautiful tax bill":

message 321: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19860 comments So an expected event occurred - Musk leaves 🍂 DOGE and administration in general. Wonder whether his short tenure would be regarded as a legacy of any kind

message 322: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments So, Musk left after serving his 130 day tenure. He's not happy with the tax bill, but he doesn't have to deal with the political morons Trump does. Well, actually, he did have to deal with political morons while trying to cut spending: Democrat domestic terrorists burning his Teslas and attacking his dealerships. Way to go, Democrats. You don't have a sensible platform, so you resort to name calling and destroying property.

I'd say he has left a legacy as far as making government departments put a name and reason for expenditures on their monetary requests. How crazy was it that tax money was spent without a person's name or reason for the expenditure on the check? Untraceable money - who knows where it went? And he exposed USAID as an agency for undocumented influence on foreign governments and other activities not sanctioned by the citizens whose tax money supports it.

He did all this at his own expense because he saw that our govt would go broke if we continued with excessive spending,

Still my hero, hiring more bodyguards because he's now a target for liberals who hate him the way they hate Trump. When are people going to realize that Democrats base everything they do on hatred?

message 323: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19860 comments Looks like the tax bill might negate all DOGE’s saving tenfold: https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2025/06/03/m...

message 324: by Anita (new)

Anita (neet413) | 95 comments Why was the taxpaying public not provided detailed receipts of what DOGE allegedly trimmed to save money?

message 325: by Nik (new)

message 326: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments Well, hell. I haven't seen this in the news. World's richest man picks a fight with world's most powerful man.

message 327: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 512 comments I am not Musk's biggest fan. I see the value in doing a good audit of where our taxpayer money goes, but I'm not sure he's the only person who could do it. And I thought it was odd that he and Vivek were brought on as a team, and Vivek soon bowed out. Made nice, polite excuses but I wondered if he just couldn't work with Musk.
As far as the Epstein remark goes - that might be the point where ties are cut. The DOJ has had the Epstein files for years - if Trump was in there in any shady way, I think it would have been used against him in his trials or the election. And how would Musk have access to that anyway? It's one thing to say a House bill is a "disgusting abomination" - it's another thing to smear someone with disgusting and abominable allegations.

message 328: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19860 comments I think this brawl (unless it's a joint stunt to move stocks and crypto) showcases how unlikely a global conspiracy of ultrarich is - these dudes with superegos can't peacefully coexist for long...
Having said that, some of them do maintain cartels, ad hoc arrangements and other tricks

message 329: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19860 comments Soon also a partyman:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1d...
Would you consider giving his party your vote?

message 330: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 512 comments I wouldn't give a third party my vote. Third parties don't win, they only cut into the vote of one party or the other. Years ago, when billionaire Ross Perot decided to run for president with Clinton and Bush (elder) running, he cut into the Bush vote and Clinton won by a plurality.
As far as Musk goes - it's the wealth. Something about extreme wealth insulates people, they don't get a lot of "no" and "you can't do that" so they start to think everyone likes and approves of them. When he didn't approve of the Big Beautiful Bill, he really seemed to think his disapproval mattered, that it had the power to change minds. When Musk went to Trump rallies, I think he really started to believe that people were showing up for him. Now he's gone from the WH circle and frankly he's not really missed. Money doesn't always make you interesting or worth listening to.
I rarely thought about Musk 3,4,5 years ago, and I doubt I'll be thinking about him five years from now.

message 331: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8079 comments I agree, Barbara, about third parties. If Elon isn't careful, he'll end up with a Democrat as president - the very party he abandoned because they have no common sense.
