I agree! The first time I tried to read The Hobbit, I dnf'd, which is quite unusual for me.

Which order should they be read in? Hobbit or LOTR first?

✧Bella✧ | 6756 comments I'd say read The Hobbit first (it comes first chronologically and was written first), but you don't HAVE to I don't think. I can't remember for sure if LOTR might be a little confusing at first without reading The Hobbit first.

Oh so it was written first. I thought it was written last so that's why I wasn't sure. I thought it was a prequel in the same sense as ABOSBAS. Well if it was written first I'm definitely reading it first.

✧Bella✧ | 6756 comments Yeah, he wrote The Hobbit, and then he wrote a sequel, which may have gotten a bit out of hand. 😂

Well I have The Hobbit, maybe I'll have to read it soon. (The whole, non-fic thing is putting me into a reading slump more then I thought it would 😂)

Why are you guys saying it got out of hand? lol. Because it became a trilogy?

message 115: by ✧Bella✧ (new)

✧Bella✧ | 6756 comments Well, yeah. Now The Hobbit is considered the prequel to LOTR, so there's that. LOTR is the one with much higher stakes too. It's the epic fantasy save to world type of thing. And it's much better.

I mean because he meanders so much and doesn't stick to a plotline very well.

But if I keep talking like that, I might get kicked out of the group.🤐

I agree with the meandering, although that wasn't what I was referring to.

Well one of my good friends has read the books several times and he said they're really really good. I'm gonna trust his opinion for now. lol
