Vaidehi | 14 comments I forgot to ask, when can we start reading books for Bingo? Is there a start-time? It's June 1 here for me, can I start a book?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments You may certainly start. Our rule is that you may start a book and be no more than halfway by midnight tonight, US Eastern time. That is, an hour from now.

So glad you’ve joined us!

soph ♡ (sophisreading) | 19 comments Hii! So, I'm using the mobile app for Goodreads, and I don't know how to add the book/author link for the book titles.

Vaidehi | 14 comments Yeah, GR's mobile version is a headache. I would advise you to switch to webpage instead - it's much easy and flexible.

Here is the link to a post related to this. Hope it helps

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments Thank you, Vaidehi. I have never used the mobile app, so I'm not a bit of help.

message 57: by Vaidehi (new)

Vaidehi | 14 comments Once upon a time, I had tried so I am aware of its all weirdness hahaha. GR is only good on big screens *discrimination* lol

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments laineley sophia, please feel free to ask any other questions.

And, welcome to Reading with Style!

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments I had planned on reading A Necklace of Raindrops and Other Stories but now the edition that pops up first is less than 100 pages. The other editions are 108 and 128p. Am I out of luck?

Yes, under 100 pages. Sorry.

Sue Oerter (sloh) | 134 comments I want to thank whoever is responsible for BINGO. It has books flying off my want to read list. And it has given me a good distraction while my husband is out of town. He will be home soon so the madness will settle. Thanks again.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments We're so glad you're having fun with it!

The book is Something Wilder by Christina Lauren

This is The Year of Secret Assignments. I hope that doesn't mess up a title begins with square.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments soph ♡ wrote: "hello! this is my first time entering reading challenges, and i'm confused about what 'MPE page count" means?"

MPE is Most Popular Edition. At RwS it means the most popular English-language print edition. You can find it when you go to the Other Editions page. The default sort on that page is Number of Ratings.

The page count for editions might vary, and wee have done this so that everyone can get the same Jumbo score no matter which edition they have and read.

RwS has a post of FAQs, which might help (or not), but you are always welcome to ask questions about anything.

Ann (lit_chick_77) | 551 comments Question about scoring towards the end -
I’ve planned out my BINGOs by the letters, which means that books 71-75 would complete the column.
For book 75, could I claim a double BINGO, for the column and the letters?

Assuming I get that far, of course…

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments Ann wrote: "Question about scoring towards the end -

What a fun idea! But sorry, no, only one BINGO per 5 square definition.

I have to admit it's been very exciting seeing some of you reading rabbits move through this puzzle. :-)

Ok, so I couldn’t claim the columns at all because some of those squares already BINGOed, correct?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments Ann wrote: "Ok, so I couldn’t claim the columns at all because some of those squares already BINGOed, correct?"

All 5 in a column is a BINGO. I thought you were asking about a double BINGO because they were consecutive. Did I misunderstand?

message 78: by Rosemary (last edited Jun 26, 2022 02:30PM) (new)

Rosemary | 4292 comments If this helps... I started out planning all B-I-N-G-O but I'm finding I have more books for the G squares. So I will probably do one G-G-G-G-G. But then if I was going to fill all 75 squares, since I couldn't claim those G squares again in B-I-N-G-Os, I would have to even that up by claiming one B-B-B-B-B, one I-I-I-I-I etc.

So you can combine B-I-N-G-O claims with column claims, but if you are going to claim all 75 squares, it won't make any difference except to the order that you want to read the books.

Does that sound right?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments That's exactly right, Rosemary. Most of us will not be able to read for all 75 squares, so figuring out 5 G-squares as a priority over the other columns might be important.

In the real game of Bingo your card is a 5x5 grid and you can get a bingo with 5-in-a-row horizontally, vertically or diagonally. (Diagonally is the same one of each letter as horizontally.) We set it up to work that same way at RwS this summer and how you attack the grid is up to you.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments Ah, and I see that I may have completely misunderstood Ann's question. I was picturing her asking about the grid squares O71 through O75.

Ann, I don't see how it is possible for you to have only 5 squares left at the end and not have a legitimate Bingo using them. But there is no additional bonus for having completed all 75 squares. Do I appear to understand your question now? Getting close?

message 81: by Ann (new)

Ann (lit_chick_77) | 551 comments I think it’s cleared up….for the sake of example, let’s say all my squares are complete except the last row,B15 I30 N45 G60 O75.
I was thinking that I could claim bingo for each of those squares since they complete the letter column, and then another bingo for the last book to complete the word. But if I understand now, I could not claim a column bingo for each book because all the prior column squares were already used in word bingos. Correct?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments Ann wrote: "I think it’s cleared up….for the sake of example, let’s say all my squares are complete except the last row,B15 I30 N45 G60 O75.."

Correct!

message 83: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmyers) | 438 comments I need a better strategy for the location squares. I've been looking on location-based listopias, and within a book's settings, but both the book I planned for Georgia (Geekerella), and now the one for Oregon (The Cousins), turned out not to be the requisite 51%. Sadly, I couldn't tell this until I was well into the book. Luckily, I was able to slot them someplace else, but I'd really like a better way to plan. Any suggestions?

message 84: by Elizabeth (Alaska) (last edited Jun 29, 2022 11:48AM) (new)

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14235 comments Settings tasks do sometimes lead you where you didn't want to go. Even googling for the location isn't always reliable. (To wit: I just googled "books set entirely in Georgia" and one on the list is The Poisonwood Bible which I *know* takes place largely in Africa.)

Your ideas might take a little research - reading reviews, looking at lists, etc. You are always welcome to ask readers in this group about a specific book or for suggestions.

One book I *know* takes place entirely in Georgia is Between, Georgia. Another is Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

I'll have to think about Oregon.

EDIT: This series takes place in Oregon.

Anika | 2796 comments Just want to make sure that we can use two volumes of poetry by the same author to reach the requisite 100 page minimum for a task. I know it's normally a rule, but this is anything but a normal season and "better safe than sorry"...

btw: I am loving this season so much! I'm having a blast :-) my reading is all over the map and it is glorious!

Yes, as long as both volumes would otherwise fit the square. Obviously there are title/page count types of squares where they would not work.

Am so glad you're enjoying it. It was fun putting it together too - and then discovering what might fit just as you are!

Marie (mariealex) | 1099 comments Hello ! I'm planning to read the Blackwater series this summer, and i've noticed that the series name is included in all book titles: in this case, do i take the "actual" title in consideration (for instance The Flood for book 1), or do i take the goodreads title (Blackwater I: The Flood for book 1) ?
I'd say 1st answer, but i'd rather be sure before starting the 6 books :)

PS: this season is so fun to plan, thanks :)

Yes, use the title without the series name. I will fix the GR titles to conform to policy.

Yes. Go to the group's bookshelf and enter the title in the 'search books' box. The search will show "Oh William' first, with a hot link 'view group reviews'. You will find Connie and others who have read/to read. (btw - I only know this because we had to do this for a task in a past season.).

August 31. You can post until midnight Eastern US time.

And a new challenge will start September 1. We try to start posting things a couple of weeks ahead so you can plan. But 'a couple of weeks' doesn't necessarily mean August 15/16, but will be close.

Your Post 688 showed a claim for task 30.52 when it should have been for 50.52. You scored it correctly however. We will fix it on our end.
