Annika was below her, oblivious to the other presence in the tree. Obviously Lynne had been a hunter for much longer. Annika creeps around the trees, searching for a kill.
An arrow zooms past Annika's shoulder and she yelps when it knicks her. She quickly notches an arrow and aims for the trees. Between the leaves, she caught a glimpse of Lynne's fiery red hair. She sighs and lowers her bow. "Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your hunt." she says.
Annika debates whether or not to leave. "I can go, if you'd like. You can cover this half of the woods and I'll take off for the other part. I don't want to keep getting in your way."
Annika grins and slips her arrow back into her quiver. "I've been trying to track an elk herd for a while now. If I've done my job well enough, they'd be in the clearing just north of here." she says, motioning north towards the river and the back half of the forest. "Perhaps it would lift Carter's spirits if we dragged something big in."
Annika begins to walk beside her. She was quiet for awhile, unsure of what exactly to say to her. To be perfectly honest, Lynne intimidated her but she was glad to be accepted. "Careful around the river banks. They're pretty steep and slippery...almost shattered my arm down there about a month ago."
Annika grins, but bites her lip nervously. When they come up to the river, she shoves a log across the bank, creating a bridge for them to cross in a safe enough fashion. She could see the clearing in front of them, so she pointed it out to Lynne and motioned for her to stay quiet.
Annika begins to slowly walk towards the open area, her feet avoiding every twig and leaf that could possibly make a sound. She notches an arrow to her bow and carefully eyes for any sign of movement beyond the trees and in the clearing.
Annika watches Lynne's shot hit its target. The arrow lodges itself in the back hind-quarter of the deer, making it collapse to the ground. Annika didn't want to take the kill from Lynne so she nods at her to finish the job.
Annika cautiously approaches the elk, knowing that there is usually always a herd nearby. This one appeared to be a young buck. He was probably not even quite a year old but he still surpassed most females in size. Annika carefully adjusts herself and aims, being very precise about where she puts her arrow. She fires and the arrow settles into the elk's chest with a sickening 'thunk.'
"Thank you!" Annika calls back quietly, approaching her kill. Before now, she had never been fast enough or quiet enough to hit anything bigger than a deer. Her weakness when it came to hunting was taking her time and being precise about every move. Lynne definitely got more kills because she was ultimately much faster.
Annika does her best to drag the elk over near Lynne, and with some struggle, she manages. "This one might have to be skinned here and cut into pieces in order to carry it back." she says with a soft laugh.

Annika nods and takes the knife from Lynne. She flips the elk over and makes a careful incision down the middle of the animal, separating the pelt from the muscle.
Annika takes her time, trying to preserve the fur best she could. Blood covered her hands. After a while, she finished and stripped the full pelt away, ready to divide the meat.
Annika takes it from her, exchanging the smaller, bloodied knife for her to use on her deer if she wants. "Thank you." she says politely and begins to divide the elk into sections.
Annika cuts the meat much more quickly. Some of her cuts were sloppy, but she was honestly just anxious to take the carcass out of the area. The sun was beginning to dim and she knew better than anyone that the wolves and coyotes descend from the mountains like monsters in the night.
"Yes, please." Annika replies, handing her a worn leather strand. "You can use that to tie the pieces together and we can drag them back to the house until we can take them into the shop." she says with a soft smile. She was glad to have an experienced hunter with her to have her back and help her out.
Carter was still in his corner when he noticied it wa getting dark and felt something was off and knew Luna and Anika went to the woods
He stepped over the pictures that had fallen when he slammed his door grabbed his bow and ran toward the woods

Annika throws the tied parcel up onto her shoulder for an easier transport. She made sure to take the heavier load so that Lynne could carry her deer along. Annika walks quickly, watching the sun sink beneath the horizon. She keeps looking back at Lynne and all around her to ensure that the two were safe.
Carter kept running into the woods not sure where the girls had gone presuming they were together
They continue to trek along with the little daylight they had left. Annika readjusts the elk on her shoulder and looks back at Lynne. "You good?"
They approach the makeshift log bridge at the river when Annika freezes. "I heard something..." she whispers to Lynne, sliding the elk from her shoulder and pulling her bow out. She carefully notches an arrow and looks ahead into the darkness, fearing wolves.
Annika takes a single step out onto the bridge, being extremely quiet and cautious.
Annika motions to Lynne, praying she could see her. She makes a strange hand motion which was actually a hunter code. "Split up?" she signed.
Annika nods then hops off the bridge and goes left. She goes out far enough to cross the river unnoticed before she climbed onto the opposite bank. She can't see any signs of movement.
Annika takes a few steps closer, her eyes adjusting to the darkness. Whatever this was, it wasn't a wolf. It was bigger, but somehow didn't move like a predator.
The arrow went flying past Annika. She sent an arrow in the direction the first had came from and she heard it sink into a tree with a loud "twang!"
Annika waits in silence, the sound of her arrow still ringing ever so slightly in her ears.
