Here is the thread for The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas



Plot: Catalina Martín desperately needs a date to her sister’s wedding. Especially since her little white lie about her American boyfriend has spiralled out of control. Now everyone she knows—including her ex and his fiancée—will be there and eager to meet him.

She only has four weeks to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic and aid in her deception. New York to Spain is no short flight and her raucous family won’t be easy to fool.

Enter Aaron Blackford—her tall, handsome, condescending colleague—who surprisingly offers to step in. She’d rather refuse; never has there been a more aggravating, blood-boiling, and insufferable man.

But Catalina is desperate, and as the wedding draws nearer, Aaron looks like her best option. And she begins to realize he might not be as terrible in the real world as he is at the office.

I am always game for a good romance. I put it on hold @ the library but is currently checked out. It might not become available till the second week of June depending on when it was checked out (we have a 3 wk return policy).

Beth, keep us posted, and fingers crossed that you'll be able to get it sometime in June and read it with us. I have a hold on this book in three libraries, but don't have the book yet either. I think I'll have it though.

I just got the book!!! :-) So, I'll be ready to read whenever Beth gets it. If she gets it late, I'm sure the other library copy will come in, so I should be covered. :-)

I think I may have a little bit more of a wait but I should get it soon!!

Sometimes I need choices, and then other times having so many books paralyze me and I have to pull out a random number generator. Of course, then, I won't like the answer and will pick my next book with another method. LOL.

I got it finally, and am 10% into the audiobook

(view spoiler)[ I don't really like that BAM the conflict started in Chapter 1 but Aaron already offering to go to the wedding. Because now we have a whole book to get through their issues- I wanted a few good "hate" chapters in of why they don't like each other before he offers up being her date. I'm sure there will be backtracking but right now I'm not impressed with the start. (hide spoiler)]

Bless you. Picked this up yesterday and (view spoiler)[ I am ready to return it at about 20% in. I am disappointed in the characters and plot. She made a comment about the movie The Wedding Date and I just feel like she is badly rewriting that just with a coworker not an escort and set in Spain not England (hide spoiler)]

I will start this tomorrow.

Not yet, I'm about 12% through. Does it get any better, Beth? I get what you all were saying about this being lackluster. :-)

I'm at 31% and I can't believe I still have 70% to go lol I'm proud of you for finishing it Beth bc I'm not so sure I can unless it picks up?

Ummmmmmm…. Let’s just say the author squandered her potential and either/ and / or the author, publisher, PR team misled this as a “hate” to “love” story .

I'm in the last little bit of this book, and it's gotten a lot better. I seriously think the author needs to re-write the first bit of the book. The work scenes were super painful and all of the faux outrage has got to go. The Hating Game did the work scenes soooo much better.

But, once we got to Spain and met the crazy family, I was soothed - it was a much better book plot. I'll finish it tonight.

But I agree so much with Beth, this is absolutely no "hate" to "love" story.

Charo was my favorite. Hilarious. But yes utterly skipable!

The sequel is about Rosie. I think the author will eventually try and write a sequel about Charo, but I'm going to probably pass. There are too many other good books out there.

I just stumbled across this and I'm so glad I did. I'm struggling to finish this, but they aren't in Spain yet. They're about to leave. Maybe I'll hang in there.

I could go either way on recommending. It does get much better in Spain, but I still felt, overall, that book wasn't worth it. I was so disappointed!
