Traveling the country camping was supposed to be an escape from the strange and unusual that clings to my family. My family’s calling to fame terrifies me. The ghosts, the hauntings, the supernatural--I want nothing to do with it.

Too bad it wants everything to do with me.

Where did the trip first go wrong? Maybe when an old friend with dark secrets insisted on coming--a rising rock star whose fame is now putting me in the limelight.

Then there is the West Virginia local legend. A monster myth of cryptid fame. A campfire story. But there are those that believe--that are willing to do whatever it takes to capture the monster in the mountains.

Maybe even use humans as bait.

Maybe even use me.


Author Note: This is a monster romance with multiple love interests the female lead will not choose between. This is book one of a series and will be slow build, meaning not all love interests are introduced in book one.

Finished (view spoiler)[Well I did really enjoy this. I still have questions and I’d like to see where that minor cliffy leads. I’m guessing another mate, but who and what he’ll be I have no idea. I like not knowing what to expect, it’s a nice change. Also…. Mothman-creepy, new to me but damn if I’m not intrigued after that scene with Ava lol. As for Ava. Oh man, at the end I really thought she was going to run off on her own. In a way she kind of did but she was on her way back when she ran into Loren. What a crazy pants he was. How the hell was he even running around with his brain hanging out 🫣🤢🤢 (hide spoiler)]

42% (view spoiler)[ Wow! That ending for ch.9 felt like it could have been a scene out of a horror movie. It had me at the edge of my seat just waiting to see what happens next. I also feel like the dream she had was not actually a dream and it's just proof that her mom was right about paranormal creatures being attracted to her even though Ava doesn't want to believe that about herself. Also, if you want to you can create the thread for the second book. It shouldn't take me too much longer to finish this one.

He should have no excuses on why he hasn't told her yet because they have known each other for years and honestly it's just hard to believe that she's his mate when he can't even be honest with her about what he is. It also makes me mad that he is still trying to keep it a secret from her even though they had sex. My first thought was something like a siren but that’s clearly not the case though I wish he’d explain more to Ava about what he is, kinda seems like something she should know lol

Must be really hard for her now and as a child to be haunted by literally seeing ghosts and wanting it to end but having family whose livelihood depends on the spirit world. Makes me wonder though is her mom and aunt wouldn’t have tried to exploit her abilities if she accepted them as an adolescent. Maybe not even intentionally but it’s almost a good thing she was in denial and got to be a kid. Then again it’d probably have been so much less scary if she approached it with kid lenses. But what do I know lol

This brings up a good point! I do think that if she had accepted her abilities sooner her mom and aunt wouldn't be pushing her as hard about them.
