Janice (jamasc) | 59936 comments The colour of a rose is significant.

- 1. RED - stands for love. They also represent respect and courage.
- 2. WHITE - is for someone you adore. They also represent reverence, humility, innocence, and purity.
- 3. YELLOW - Celebrates life and joy, perfect for a new mom.
- 4. CORAL or ORANGE - expresses enthusiasm or desire.
- 5. PINK - Grace and gentility. Light pink = admiration, Medium pink = "you're lovely", Deep pink = Thankyou.
-6. ALL PALE COLOURS signify friendship.

Pull the petals off your rose to determine what book you'll read for this challenge. You could base your read on the colour or the meaning. Maybe you want to read a book where the cover is 75% red, or the title contains "red". Maybe the theme will be about about motherhood if you pick the yellow rose. Let your imagination grow wild.

General Rules:

1. The book may be in any format - paperback, ebook, audiobook.
2. The book may be combined with the Year Long Challenge and the Group Themed Read.
3. The book must be read between June 1 and June 30, 2022 (based on your local time zone).
4. The challenge is for one book. You may read more books if you chose but you may only report one.
5. The book must be 175 pages or more determined by the issue you read.

In the case of ebooks & audiobooks, use the hardcover or paperback edition to determine page length. From the book page, select “all editions”, then select the first paper edition as your guide. If reading an ebook and there is no paper edition, the ebook book must be at least 250 pages. If reading an audiobook and there is no paper edition, your book must be a minimum of 6 hours long.

Report your finished books in the reporting thread using your WoF name. Also tell us:
- what task you chose and how it relates to the rose colour you picked
- link to the book
- tell us what your think of the book.

Please be analytical in your presentation, and not just that you liked it or didn't. We want to know details.)

The Ardent Swarm by Yamen Manai 76% yellow
or
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus 79% orange

Will see which one strikes my fancy in June - great challenge, Janice! I think I may have been sending the wrong color roses lol!

message 5: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments I have two books on my TBR list that may work Into the Lion's Mouth The True Story of Dusko Popov World War II Spy, Patriot, and the Real-Life Inspiration for James Bond by Larry Loftis and A Drop of Midnight A Memoir by Jason Timbuktu Diakité .

Janice - do the colors on the covers need to be percentage? Thanks.

Kristie | 19177 comments I may go with red and using the love meaning read a romance novel. I've been reading some more contemporary romances and humor novels recently after several heavier books and I'm enjoying them.

Red:
MPG romance - The Bodyguard or Something Wilder

red cover - Good Girl, Bad Blood (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, #2) by Holly Jackson or maybe Stay Awake by Megan Goldin

or for white cover: The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn , which also fits our themes.

I haven't checked any of my covers for % yet. Just my first thoughts. Stay Awake looks like it might not be red enough because it's a bit shadowy.

Lilisa | 2770 comments I found another - Red Island House Red Island House by Andrea Lee - sounds interesting!

message 12: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Hopper | 2427 comments I’m not sure…
I have narrowed it down to either red for love:Letters from Skye which also fits yearly challenge OR

Willa's Grove or The Lighthouse for pale colors for friendship…

message 13: by Ayacchi (new)

Ayacchi | 1726 comments I want to read something out of the yearly challenge so I may read Yôgisha X No Kenshin - Kesetiaan Mr. X by Keigo Higashino . I watched the drama and want to refresh my memory.

message 14: by Lanelle (last edited May 29, 2022 09:21AM) (new)

Lanelle | 4024 comments As I was reading through the meanings of the colors, 4. CORAL or ORANGE - expresses enthusiasm or desire reminded me of Enthusiasm by Polly Shulman . I've been wanting to read it for quite a while now. It sounds like this month is the time to get it done (and off my TBR list :)

And the colors on the cover represent the Coral/Orange roses so well.

That colour seemed popular a couple of years ago. I thought of A Curve in the Road by Julianne MacLean and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah . The second one doesn't have enough coverage, but I'm super slow with reading print books right now and I don't have them on audiobook. Instead, I'm going with the "desire" part and read Seduction in Death, Seduction in Death (In Death, #13) by J.D. Robb The audiobook doesn't have the orange flower on the cover but seduction is all about desire.... and in this case, death.

Laura (Lclwags) (lclwags) | 698 comments Excited to participate this month! I'm thinking I'll go with 6. ALL PALE COLOURS signify friendship and read a book from the Best Friendship Books list. Lycanthropy and Other Chronic Illnesses sounds interesting and my library has it available. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/4...

♞ Pat Gent | 629 comments I'm going to go with either

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm a bit picky and slow about my reading lately so I wasn't sure if I would join. But I just returned an audible book and picked up another that I also happen to be in the mood for: All The Lonely People by Mike Gayle

So I guess I'll join after all :) No idea if I'll finish in time though..

message 26: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19177 comments I do that all the time, Peggy! I even do it with my real life book clubs. Last month, I literally read the last page and a half of the book while sitting at the table during book club waiting for the discussion to start. That was the closest I've ever cut it. lol
