by Carys Davies - hoping it fits the criteria."
I don't know much about this book but it does seem to have a link to Kentucky and early-American exploration so I will allow it, barring conflicting opinions from readers more familiar with it.

We will consider books with a southern literary theme that have not been read by the group in the last 24 months. Per our recently revised criteria, the two categories are books originally published in or before 1990 or those published after 1990. You may make one nomination in each category. Authors may not nominate their own works. Please post your nominations below and specify which category you are nominating it for.
Nominations are now closed. Voting will take place in the first ten days of next month.
The eligible nominations received will be listed below:
Books originally published in or before 1990
1. The Time It Never Rained, by Elmer Kelton
2. The Reivers, by William Faulkner
3. The Widow's Trial, by John Ehle
4. Giant, by Edna Ferber
5. Woe to Live on, by Daniel Woodrell
6. In the Land of Dreamy Dreams, by Ellen Gilchrist
Books originally published after 1990
1. The Brighter the Light, by Mary Ellen Taylor
2. West, by Carys Davies
3. Nightwoods, by Charles Frazier
4. Bastard Out of Carolina, by Dorothy Allison
5. Shifty's Boys, by Chris Offutt
6. That Distant Land: The Collected Stories, by Wendell Berry
FYI: Laura has indicated that the Moderator’s Choice selection for July will be Requiem by Fire, by Wayne Caldwell. Those of us who read and enjoyed Cataloochee may enjoy a chance to revisit the same fertile Appalachian ground that provided the setting for Caldwell’s first novel.
