JasonReads | 54 comments 1. The Last Mile by David Baldacci
2. The Black Prism by Brent Weeks
3. The Sword-Edged Blonde by Alex Bledsoe
4. The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne
5. Green Rider by Kristen Britain
6. A Shadow in Summer by Daniel Abraham

I've been in a reading slump with the fantasy genre for the past several years now, but decided last month to break through it by sheer brute force. Pretty much, once I finished The Black Prism (which I started last year, got halfway through, then stopped) and knocked out The Sword-Edged Blonde, I had no trouble reading the rest.

But I swear that I do, in fact, reading mysteries and thrillers. 😂

Ann (annrumsey) | 16937 comments Nice list Jason. I've had similar genre reading slumps, and it is nice when the return sparks a flurry of reading to break out. I'll have to look at these more closely in case I slide in a fantasy book (or two)

I have had the audio version on my Overdrive wish list for awhile but the reviews here on Goodreads are all over the map.

It's not bad. I personally think the books in the rest of the series are better because they lean harder into the detective fiction side of things, while Sword-Edged Blonde is more focused on setting up the series and the Eddie LaCrosse character. If you don't like that book, you can just skip it since all the books are basically standalones.

Bonnie I really enjoyed Alex Bledsoe's Tufa series, so will keep this other one on my tbr shelf for when I get into a fantasy mood. I don't call mine slumps, but I do binge on one genre at a time a lot, then move to another.
