Shirley has always been pretty boisterous. Most often, they mean it sincerely, but other times, they're just not very good with communicating their feelings to others. In order to avoid any sort of social faux pas, they may make light of their own feelings in a certain situation. They find themself easily placated in the presence of plants, which they are known to escape into if the situation might seem to be too emotionally deep for them to handle.
Their solution to heavy atmospheres also lends to their loud nature. Practical jokes on others happen to be their forte, though on some occasions they can actually be quite helpful in relieving tension. Their penchant for plants tends to leave them smelling most often like the flowers they tend to, as well as the particular strong aroma they give off themself. This can lead to a naturally calming effect, or cause a major headache. But their gentle nature seems to soothe most emotional ailments without them realizing it.
Shirley is exceedingly conscientious, to the point that if without a chance, they might have even gone the route of breaking laws to do what they thought was right. Eco-activism is something that they often partake in, as well as finding means to live a lifestyle that is environmentally friendly. Despite their otherwise apparent dislike for studying, they enjoy rethinking technological and mechanical applications to better make them sustainable. Which is how they've managed to get a motorcycle running on water. If there's a science question to be had, they're a solid place to start for an answer.
Without a doubt, Shirley is a towering figure. They stand at six foot eight inches (minus their pistols), making it necessary for them to be seated in the back and to have to duck under doorways. Atop their head are two horn-like structures. While they appear hard, they're actually quite soft. This is because they're pistols and are quite sensitive. Previously, they had been protected by petal-like groupings of hair at the crown of their head while they were still growing, but those have since drooped. Their hair is white with red and blue highlights and tips, and undercut making those colors most apparent. While it is about armpit length, they tend to keep it up in a ponytail.
They appear to have a rough exterior with numerous piercings that are removed when in school, but present otherwise. While physically they are masculine, they have a preference for wearing the female uniform and outside of classes their style appears to rely on more androgynous grunge trends. In the spring and summer, it's common to find them with their sleeves rolled up, while they tend to be more bundled up in the winter and fall to fight against the cold they so dislike. Their hero costume is also distinctly feminine. Shirley's known for being exceedingly polite in the presence of the elderly and authority figures, but veers more toward slang around their classmates. As to whether they sound masculine or feminine is variable on the day.
Born in Hokkaido, it was said that a thousand flowers bloomed at Shirley's birth. Their mother, a nameless woman that had been passing through, passed soon after this momentous occasion, leaving them in the care of an old couple that had been carrying for their mother. It wasn't clear if the woman had a quirk or not, but they'd been told that the village had been plagued with withering crops when she arrived. The auspicious marking had been decided as a quirk and their mother's passing as a reversal of this power.
Raised by this elderly couple, they received hand-me-downs from the village and learned of traditions that would have been otherwise missed. They were nurtured in a culture more in-tune with nature than those of the city, carrying it with them through to middle school. When Shirley's quirk had become apparent, the village thrived and soon money was raised to send them off to a fancy school in the city. The hope was that they would be able to study agriculture eventually to better the land around the farming community. They found themself passing through the hands of relatives that had moved away from the village, learning more about the city and the wealth that had spread to them.
Shirley would never take these moments for granted, then being a small middle-schooler that had not yet hit their growth spurt. Their quirk's physical characteristics did draw some attention, often garnering admirers for their much softer appearance. Vulnerable then, much like a new sprout sticking out of the ground, they had their fair share of mishaps. They had the good luck of avoiding most terrible accidents, until they witnessed the kidnapping of a classmate. A chance encounter that had them roped into the mess.
Their quirk was useful in escaping their captors, but when they sought the help of the police, the matter had been dismissed with little done to solve it. To them, this was not the community that cared. The farming village would have stopped at nothing to ensure such acts wouldn't happen again. So — they took matters into their own hands. It was the turning point of using their powers more offensively, leaving behind a garden of gangsters trapped in flowers. Shortly thereafter, with the excessive use of their quirk, Shirley hit that growth spurt they'd wanted. Their admirers shifted in demographic and they found that they needed to make their escape more often to avoid the people challenging them.
It was suggested by one of their hosts that they ought to attend UA. Perhaps it was in the hopes that they would stop going out nightly as part of the neighborhood watch, their size then already impressive enough to fend off most people. Not to mention the folks that hung around them. With little to lose, Shirley applied, and while they somehow still struggle with the environment of the school, it's been...fun, they'd say.
seventeen ( oct 27 ) ☙ second year class B ☙ transfem ( bisexual ) + single ☙ five ft four[ medium - ✰✰✰✰✰ ] user has the ability to form a pact with 10 spirits at a time. this allows them to possess her body and use it as a medium for their own abilities. quirks that may be exhibited are at 10-25% of their original capacity depending on how strong the pact is. however, pacts can be broken through outside persuasion and the cost of such is a break in sanity. mental fortitude is highly required for this ability, as the user is merely a host body. they will exhibit characteristics of possessing spirits.
Meili may come off as being particularly stuck-up, but she comes from a lineage of mediums and perfection is required — thus she requires it from everyone else. Or to at least make an effort. Her focus on her studies and perfecting of her skills tends to leave her lacking in the social department, and thinking for the most part that she can get by just fine without anyone else. Most definitely not the best candidate for a group project, if anyone ever asks.
