Miss Lattimore's Letter – really cute

Finished The Moonlight School. I was expecting a story about night schools, but they don't open until the final pages of the book.

Yeah that was interesting. Not what I expected either.

Miss Lattimore's Letter was fairly cute I guess? I got bored. I love Austen and it's definitely Austenesque but not enough or something. I don't know.

Should be soon, I think. I got through the first round of the ones I most wanted to read, so this next round was put on hold later.

I loved All the Murmuring Bones and The Moonlight School.

I gave up on Battle Royal. Maybe I'll return to it later. Starting A Master of Djinn.

Had kind of mixed feelings about Dictionary of Lost Words. Loved elements of it but it pushed close to the "trying to do too much" several times and there were avenues that seemed not to have needed exploring...but at the same time it's just right somehow? Ironically there aren't words to really explain it.

The comparison of Ten Low to Firefly isn't wrong, but I found it difficult to follow, especially as an audiobook.

I did, too, but thought it might just be me.

I liked The Moonlight School, but I was disappointed that it was predictable once a new character was introduced. I also thought the story would be more about the school experience. Overall I enjoyed it. First time reading a Reader's Choice. I'm late to the party.

I found out A Master of Djinn has several prequel novellas. That probably would've helped with my initial confusion.

Yeah that would have been good to know.

The Dictionary of Lost Words was quite good. I read The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary last year, which was mentioned in the author's note as inspiration.

whispers I couldn't get into A Master of Djinn. I bet the prequel novellas would've helped.

I enjoyed it but it did feel like stuff was missing.
Now I clearly need to read The Professor and the Madman.

There is a movie of The Professor and the Madman, if you don't want to read a whole book. It's good.

The film is truly excellent. Mel Gibson as the Professor and Sean Penn as the Madman. Both inhabit their parts so well you forget who they are in real life.

I didn't recognize Mel Gibson at all in it.

To Sir With Love was cute. I think I can squeeze in Winter's Orbit. That leaves only four I didn't read, which I think is a record.

Britt: Your branch may not have received your votes yet. When you vote online, they get sent to the branch you indicated online via our delivery routes so sometimes it takes a few days.

I use Hunter too. I guess I haven't looked closely.

It's been on the Readers' Choice display the last few times I've been in.

I haven't been over there recently as I've done mostly audiobooks and online voting.

Ugh! I completely missed it. I had no idea it had started yet and now it's over.

Audrey I do mostly audio too but my kids think they'll die if they don't have a constant stream of library books!
Patty the next round should start in January. I think it's January and July.

Audrey's right! We'll get started on the next session in January and will run til the end of April.

Watching you all read and report on these, it seems to me the timing is like a female cat. As soon as one litter is done, it's time for a new round as soon as the current ones are weaned! When this latest round began I was actually startled because it seemed hot on the heels of the one that barely ended.

Same here. I did read a couple spring books after the deadline, so that was part of it.

Interesting....I'm sad more people didn't read/enjoy the PanAm one.

I thought The Moonlight School was all right and didn't even read The Music of Bees. I liked the Pan Am one a lot. I don't think I had a top favorite.
