EVERYONE Has Read This but Me - The Catch-Up Book Club discussion

This is the Pre-Read thread for the August 2022 Modern selection. This month we will be reading Piranesi by Susanna Clarke.

Who's planning to join in on this read? Why did you choose this particular book? Any expectations?

I'll read this one. I'm interested in it because I really liked The Starless Sea (well, the first 2/3 of it, before it went bonkers), and this book is supposed to be a bit of a similar reading experience.

So started this and I have to say, all I feel is SUPER CONFUSED right now.

What is going on in this book haha

I read this a while ago, I might do a reread though.

I agree, this book is really confusing in the beginning. Part 1 is an information overload with no context. Part 2 is also really slow. The point of the story is really obscure. I finally started to enjoy reading this book in Part 3. (Still haven’t finished though)

Just finished this. Parts were super confusing but it did wrap up nicely.

I chose this book because, though I do not always join the discussions, I try to keep abreast of what the group is reading. In general, the group reads have been some of the best books I have read so I try to read all of them. Currently, I am reading Piranesi because I have already read Jane Austen's works and it was more readily available from my library than The Silent Patient (which I also plan to read). I have to disagree though. I am just starting Part 4 of the book and I find it quite a relaxing read. While I agree the meaning of the book is still obscure, I do not find it confusing.
