Anita (anitanodiva) | 1129 comments I'm watching this series and am really impressed by how close to the book they have stayed. It's on Prime and is really good.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments I haven't read the books but I'm going to check out the show.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1129 comments Open Season (Joe Pickett #1) by C.J. Box Open Season by C.J. Box. I listened to it in April 2022 and the plot is still fairly fresh in my mind. The series is great, both the books and the TV series.

FYI, you can access it via Amazon Prime Video but it requires a Paramount Plus subscription.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments Thanks Anita. I requested a copy from the library. I hope to watch the show this week.

Unfortunately, you do have to pay for most access to quality TV these days.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments I couldn't find it on Prime and I don't have Paramount. I did finish the first book this past weekend and loved it.

I read an article about CJ Box. Apparently he was in negotiations to bring the series to TV five years ago.

He said, "For those interested in seeing a Joe Pickett television series: there won't be one. We have withdrawn the project from the producers who were in charge of developing and placing a series,” wrote Box.

“Why? We didn't like the direction they were going. It is of paramount importance that if a Joe Pickett series is ever produced and broadcast that it maintain the characters, story lines, sequence, themes, location, and narrative integrity of the books. Naming actors ‘Joe Pickett’ or ‘Marybeth’ or ‘Nate Romanowski’ and creating wholly new personalities and motivations for them in a faux-Wyoming location won't cut it."

It sounds like he wants the series that he wrote to be on TV. I'm sure someone I know has Paramount. I'm going to find out and pay them a visit.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments Also, I love the casting.

Sharon Lawrence as Missy is an excellent choice. She can play a snob.

Kudos to the author for staying strong on these issues.

I wish more authors would hold their ground and demand they keep the characters and general storyline the same as the book.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 1129 comments I just have to say that the production that ended up on TV was very true to the story line and the characters. C.J. Box must have resolved the issues he had with the planned production, because what ended up being produced was fantastic.
