Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments I'm baack and can't wait to unplug for 24 hours! I do have visitors arriving Sunday, so the timing was cutting it close :)

Here's my eclectic, something-for-every-mood stack:

Project Hail Mary
Open Secrets: Stories
Dear Evan Hansen
The Best Women’s Travel Writing, Volume 12: True Stories from Around the World
Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly
Everything I Never Told You
The Pale Horse
New Kid
Merci Suárez Changes Gears
The Whispering Statue

I have a couple of these also on audio and/or Kindle to change things up.

Traditions continued: stack of ten, Agatha Christie, nonfiction, short stories, Nancy Drew, Newbery winner if I'm not caught up (I have two this time).

In between crossing off items on my huge to-do list, I'll pop around to see what everyone's plans are!

Thinking alike. I am hoping to read another middle-school book about another hispanic girl Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. I will add that book, the one your possibily reading, to my list of possibilities for another Dewey's Readathon. Dewey's friends help me expand as a reader. Loving it!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments Looks like you have a good variety to choose from depending on which mood you get in!

Ann, I love your book choices! [book:Project Hail Mary
is a recent read for me. I think it's a good readathon read - entertaining!

Susan | 986 comments What a fun list! I really enjoyed Kitchen Confidential even if I’ll never look at a restaurant menu the same way again, and the Women’s travel writing anthology sounds like a great way to armchair travel. You can’t go wrong with Agatha Christie. Enjoy your reading! Can’t believe it’s today already

Oh, here you are! You have a new thread!
Looks like you're all good to go. I loved Project Hail Mary, hope you do too!
An Agatha here waiting to be read as well.

Good luck & happy readathoning!

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Ahhh! I can't believe how fast this crept up on me. It's been a crazy busy week, but I've gotten a lot done knowing my reward was a blissful, guilt-free 24 hours of reading books and talking about it :)

I've spent the last hour trying to put food together. Here's the plan:

Meals: Bean stew, veggie omelette, melon, big veggie salad with tuna
Snacks: Pico de gallo with avocado and tortilla chips (thanks for the idea, Cynda). I made my own pico, so I hope it's good! Sliced apples with peanut putter, cheese and crackers
Drinks: Hot and iced tea, Spindrift, Kefir, and one Cherry Zero at some point

I plan to do the usual sprints at hours 1, 4, 8 (hmm, maybe), 12, 16, 20, and 24. I find the them very motivating.

Sorry I didn't get to visit more of you before the start. I just ran out of time. I'll update some during the event, but will definitely do more visiting afterwards to see how everyone did. Good luck, all!

Glad to help! My avocados are up in a brown bag getting ready for later. . . .The good thing about making your own food is you get to figure out what entertains the palate today vs another day. Enjoy!

Nice going!
I'm doing only ebooks and audiobooks this time so not sure how many pages I got in so far. Will calculate at the end...

message 22: by Ann A (last edited Jul 23, 2022 11:32AM) (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Hours 13-18

Dear Evan Hansen - 93 pgs, finished
New Kid - 171 pgs, finished
Everything I Never Told You - 20 pgs (audio)

Running total, pages: 594
Running total, hours: 5 hr 28 min reading, 2 hr 33 min audio

I loved the two books I've finished so far! I'm not in the mood for my audiobook, so I think I'll switch to Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly when my eyes next need a break.

I'm going to make a strong push until the end, but will check up on you all later!

message 23: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments Yes, that is the thing with doing the percentages. Especially if it is a book you already started before the RaT. It takes a minute to calculate!

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Wrapup

This was a highly successful readathon for me (the Reverse format is growing on me). For the first time in all the years I've been doing Dewey's, I read from ALL of the books in my stack (traditionally ten). Luckily, they were all so different I didn't find it confusing at all.

Dear Evan Hansen - 165 pgs (play), finished - loved it. Now I must see a performance!
New Kid - 249 pgs (graphic), finished - loved this as well
Project Hail Mary - 141 pgs - I really enjoyed what I read of this, but I was getting sleepy so switched gears
Everything I Never Told You - 91 pgs (audio) Not really feeling the mood on this one, but I will finish it
Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly - 27 pags (audio) Fascinating so far
The Best Women’s Travel Writing, Volume 12: True Stories from Around the World - 50 pgs - Again, loving it
Open Secrets: Stories - 51 pgs - My first Munro. The woman can write a short story.
Merci Suárez Changes Gears - 31 pgs - Another lovely Newbery winner
The Pale Horse - 31 pgs - Christie is my favorite mystery writer. It will be a sad day when I've read them all.
The Whispering Statue - 38 pgs - Ok, not great literary fiction, but an homage to my childhood ;)

Total pages: 874
Total hours: 12 hr 21 min (9 hr 8 min reading, 3 hr 13 min audio)

I didn't visit too much this time, but I loved the fact you were all reading with me. The sense of unity was comforting, and we all need more of that right now!

Already looking forward to October!
