Stefanie Michelle (stef__michelle) My dream is starting a used bookstore someday. I am a bibliophile and I collect books for myself - not anything professional or anything, just books I love.

I also frequent freebie pages in my city and I've procured quite a lot of books for nothing. I figure if I can sell them even for very little, I'm out ahead, assuming I can work out shipping doing it online!

I just wonder how I can feel out the market on certain books. Maybe a goodreads group? Or Facebook group? I'm not quite ready to just start posting on eBay, but that might be the next step. If anyone has info please let me know :)

Lin | 266 comments look up the books on Barnes & Nobles site and check under their marketplace for books that are for sale by independent used dealers and see what any given book is prices for there.

Christie Stratos (christiestratos) So you're looking to sell your books that you don't need/want anymore? What about a book swap so you could get new books you haven't yet read? I have been thinking about that for a long time...

flea market?

Joi | 19 comments Stefanie, I was thinking about doing a Facebook group where people can sell/buy books from each other. I sent GoodReads an e-mail about this two weeks ago, and they said it wasn't possible to make a group like that on here. But I would love to work with you if you decide to go further with this idea.

Lee Whitney (boobearcat) | 99 comments Does Goodreads approve of book swapping on here?

message 10: by John (new)

John | 42 comments I have no idea and certainly would not want to do anything against their rules. I will check into it.

Lee Whitney (boobearcat) | 99 comments not worth it, shipping cost more than the book most times.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I use PaperBackSwap. It used to be free, but now it's $10 or $15 a year to join. I've swapped over 600 books on there. I've gotten new released books, or hard to find out of print books. I traded my kids old baby board books for books they'd like as teenagers.

THey used to do official swapping but could not monitor it so discontinued it.

I think it's fine as long as it's not official and not holding Goodreads responsible. I know that groups do bookmark chains and other exchanges.

Paperbackswap is something I used years ago but it's a bit too pricey now. For the price of a credit I can usually get the book at abebooks for the same price or cheaper. Their box of books swap was useful, but you have to find the right person to trade with and have them and you agree with the books.

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments You could try booksfreeswap.com

Th person who wants the book actually pays for shipping there. The downfall there is there are not a ton of users so you may not move many books. It is also not really a trade site. Just a place to get books to people who would like to read them.
