Kirsten | 573 comments Have any of you lovelies read a good pandemic book, preferably MM romance, but not necessary? And preferably 300+ pages? I've got it for another challenge and I haven't found anything that really interests me.

message 652: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments you mean a book where a pandemic takes place in the story?

Ten Simple Tips for Surviving the Apocalypse is good Kirsten , only short though

Juggernaut

message 654: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments I was thinking either Nora Phoenix's Ignite series or Keira Andrews' Kick at the Night series.

message 655: by Kirsten (last edited Nov 09, 2022 01:43PM) (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments Thank you all! I actually realized Kick at the Night would work this morning and will read that.

Juggernaut got added to my giant TBR.

Kirsten | 573 comments Loved Kick at the Darkness! I’ve got a few things to read before I can starting Fighting the Tide.

I also love this mix of spell and scavenge. If I book doesn’t have good food, I count letters. For 2 ys just now. Not much beyond protein bars in the zombie apocalypse. How you doin’?

I have to look that up ... but I think the Metahuman files would work as well as should the magi account
both series I love ... so maybe if you need more ;)

message 658: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments I just finished Irish Charm and it has a bunch of food, but it's under 300 pages - should I wait to add it till later in the month?

message 659: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments I'm looking up the Magi Account, Claudia. I've avoided Metahuman Files in the past, but can give it another look. Thanks!

message 660: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments There are a ton of interesting foods in the book I'm reading now and it's over 300 pages :)

I haven't read a single book with good food this week. I've been trying to stick with 300+ and have got some good letters... but I'm spelling rather than scavenging. What are you reading?

message 662: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Mine havent had much food.in them either .
Ive been adding books worth 4 items as well , we are.almost half way through month and not half way through the 100 books we can use

Thanks for that, Janine--I've been reading a fair few of those for my plague challenge, knocking out the tasks with the shortest books I can. But I always mark! I'll add some soon.

just finished After I Do - amazing!!!
and I'm currently lost in Chosen. I couldn't stay up last night to read any more... I literally blew off everything and read all day yesterday.

I added Chosen because you mentioned it elsewhere, and it's in the queue for sooner rather than later. It's been awhile since I read a good thriller.

ETA: I'm a huge Elsborg fan, but haven't read anything but MM from her yet.

message 667: by Trio (last edited Nov 13, 2022 12:57PM) (new)

Trio | 259 comments Kirsten - just so you know, Chosen has some really dark themes including total non-con sex, but it isn't gross vag sex, I promise. She glosses over it well, and doesn't spend any time describing it. (view spoiler)

message 668: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments I was also holding off on books that were shorter (like 200-300 pages) so will add a bunch tomorrow. And then some longer ones. Sorry for the wait on those! I don't know why it overwhelms me every month

message 669: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments it's a lot of hunting and picking to find those characters' names for the spellout

I can do dark, as long as its not exploitive and I know it going in! I read several reviews before adding it. I can also DNF!

Trio | 259 comments I have a really hard time not finishing a book, I just keep hoping I'll get what the author is trying to say - and I trust too much that there's a method to their madness.

Just an example... Jake in Josh Lanyon's Adrien English series. I'd have loved to punch him in the crap-lousy face about a hundred times, but in the end he finally redeems himself. 😂

I will forever stand up to say that Jake is complete trash 😂 The Holmes and Moriarity series is far superior and I don't know why most people love Jake & Adrien so much.

message 673: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments Um, haven't read any Lanyon except a short in an anthology and Fair Game.

I can't get over her pretending to be a gay man. Ditto that "more heat" writer.

message 674: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments I've been a beta reader for her for years K, and she was "out" as a female author to us - it was her publisher who urged her to do it to begin with, and they were the ones to out her. They convinced her that being female would destroy her career before it began.

She was miserable over the whole thing.

That’s really good to know. I didn’t love Fair Game, so I didn’t think I was missing much. But I do love MM thrillers.

Janeylou | 1134 comments Ys & Ps seem to be our 'hard to find'letters this time round 🙄🙄..so im going to change a few of the ones that havent been started

message 677: by Trio (last edited Nov 16, 2022 01:15PM) (new)

Trio | 259 comments yes, I noticed that too Janeylou. If I can find a book with 8 characters who all have a last name beginning with the letter "Y" then we'll be all set 😂

message 678: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments I just added 2 Ys, and I have another 2 I can add when I finish the book! Also added a P and am looking for those. I'm reading LOOOONG space books with not much food but lots of names, so I've got options.

Claudia | 103 comments Guys I am afraid my computer died this weekend ... i have to bring it to the shop and hopefully it will work again

message 680: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Oh claudia, you're not havi g much luck

message 681: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments Computer problems suck - I agree.
I have a deal with HP so they fix everything, but sometimes I have to send the laptop to them, sometimes they do it while I'm on the phone. Either way it's time consuming and a PITA.

So sorry Claudia!

message 682: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 573 comments I would literally die. I’m so sorry.

message 683: by Claudia (new)

Claudia | 103 comments Thanks ... no my luck is not the best at the moment.
But I am still hoping that I can save it ... it is fairly new

message 684: by Claudia (new)

Claudia | 103 comments But I finished some books ... so, I try to take a look at the spreadsheet on ny phone and would write names or food here inthe thread.
It would be great if one of you could add it in the spreadsheet

message 685: by Claudia (new)

Claudia | 103 comments I read some books with under 300pg. Let me know if they are of interest

message 686: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Just post them claudia ..then we can hopefully get everything sorted without rushing

I've got your back, Claudia!

Or, don’t worry about it. It’s not worth your stress.

message 688: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 696 comments How many books can we have this time? Could we add some more?

All we have left is:

message 691: by Trio (new)

Trio | 259 comments There's a ton of food in Malibu Rising, and it's 8 spots. Is there any type of meal I should be making? Or do you want to do more spell outs?

message 692: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 1134 comments Ive added some more spellouts and scavengers , but we can allways change depending on what books you reading .
