Anne Skyvington (anneskyvington) Hi all!
I self-published my book, 'Karrana', at the end of 2019, just before the pandemic hit. I would love to receive some more reviews for it. It was a struggle getting it published to the standard I asked of myself. And I've only had positive reviews since, but too few to make a difference.

This story is set in the fictional town of Karrana and the book is also for historical romance lovers. I show Bridie through the prism of the post-War years, with Australia on the brink of huge changes. As a butterfly-like creature cocooned in a narrow universe, Bridie’s narcissism is put to good use in attracting a mate.

She is getting ready, like the nation, to break out and demand more from life than the one her family has allowed her. The question the novel sets up is: Will she be victorious in finding fulfillment with a chosen mate and in re-gaining a missed education, or will it be a question of ‘fools rush in’?

Will is the rich kid from across the Karrana River. She sees him as the knight in shining armor who will rescue her from the slough.

In the spirit of victory 18-year-old Bridie, chaperoned by her brothers, goes to a dance where she meets Will, a gentle giant of a man who she instantly falls in love with. Bridie O’Toole is just as innocent and beautiful as her name suggests, so catching Will’s attention, regardless of her hovering brothers, has not been a problem for her. “Million Dollar Baby” was what the “blokes” called her.

Both families try to warn their children off each other, but it isn’t long before the fruit of romance stars to grow inside Bridie's slender belly. What follows this whirlwind spring romance is twists and turns and more babies: drama and life!

This is a love story, but it does not follow the line that the reader imagines. The story is passionate and romantic without the untrue cliché of “happily ever after.”

Please let me see what you think of it. I've published it on Amazon, but can easily send you an epub or other copy. If you are in Australia, a paperback is also a possibility. Thank you.
