Emileine Mahoney | 4 comments Hey Everybody!
I finished my first book and am looking for a pdf editor that is compatible with Chromebook. Any suggestions?

Eric Engle (httpamazoncomauthorquizmaster) You don't edit at pdf. You use a text editor of whatever variety to produce a pdf.

You can try to import a pdf to google documents and edit that. it sometimes works, usually breaks, but only somewhat.

i hate pdf format but we're stuck with it somehow.

Emileine Mahoney | 4 comments Thank you both! I looked in the app store and it looks like I have options.
I know, being stuck with PDF is a really bum deal. The thing that drives me crazy is how when you type something up, say as a docx, and then you convert it into a PDF, it shifts the paragraphs and where the chapters begin!

Eric Engle (httpamazoncomauthorquizmaster) i know you think you have options.
you'll discover you don't.
basically it's partly because pdf layout is not dependent on lines but on xy point coordinates. but mostly it's because adobe wants to screw us all while taking our money and telling us it's all for our own good.

avoid working in pdf whenever possible. really. it's basically a one way street, easy to get things into pdf impossible to get them out, it always munges up something.

Emileine Mahoney | 4 comments But when I upload my book, it changes the format and I assume automatically makes it into a PDF. What other format can I upload where it won't mess up the paragraphs, chapter pages, etc?

Robin Tompkins | 336 comments Hi Emileine. If you are uploading your book and the paragraphs and chapter headings are moving around or generally not looking how you expected them to, you may not have formatted the document correctly. What are you uploading to? If it is to KDP you would be best to put your document into 'Kindle Create' first as that will do a lot of the work for you. If you are using another platform, you might need to check out some desk top publishing tutorials on You Tube. Just as an example, did you know that when you use 'tab' in microsoft word to indent, it will play havoc with the document when you upload it to a platform that converts it to HTML?

I do all of my formatting in Word, then print to a PDF - I use Foxit because it's free (or you can upgrade for a very reasonable price). The finished product looks EXACTLY the same as my Word document. I NEVER edit the PDF. If I need changes, I make them in Word and then reprint. I have never had issues with my print version looking different even in KDP or Ingram

If you're talking about the Kindle Version - I use Kindle Create imported from a WORD doc. It's a bit tricky if you have JPGs in it, but generally I can reformat pretty quickly.
