Leia Barko | 34 comments Hi Ian, I recently published a YA dystopian/sci-fi novel, Ruffian. Here is the synopsis:
Astra Hal is a Ruffian, a member of a secret organization created by the artificial intelligence Sigma, designed to be humanity’s last hope in case all else fails.

Hendric Sanjor is the son of a representative in the United Republic of Global Welfare, the ruling body of the world.

When a virus of unknown origins starts spreading across the planet and Hendric’s family is accused of starting it to gain political advantage, Astra is sent to investigate the issue. When it becomes clear that the accusation is false, the two form an uneasy alliance to hunt down the real perpetrator behind the pandemic. But the puzzles, criminals, and politics they weave through can in no way prepare them for the dark secrets they are about to uncover.

I would love to get a review. Thanks in advance!

Robert | 3 comments I wonder if you might be interested in reviewing my novel, The Hour of Blue. An environmental thriller, it was well-received when it first appeared some thirty-five years ago. Midwest Book Review called it a…”haunting novel…a combination of science fiction, suspense, and the environmental headlines of today and tomorrow.” The novel caught the attention of Warner Brothers, who purchased the film rights before the book found its way into bookstores. Ultimately the studio did not make the film, and eventually the book went out of print.

The plot of The Hour of Blue is fueled by a conundrum. Amos Thibault, a techie with Maine’s Forest Service, is puzzled by recent satellite data. The forest, he discovers, is inexplicably changing. And at Penobscook Bay, where the changes appear to be focused, he meets a woman whose research on dolphin communication has drawn her to the same bay. Together they learn there is more to the enigma. Local residents are falling victim to an epidemic of catatonia, a child with unusual talents delivers ominous warnings. And a mysterious trio of medical researchers appears to know more than they are telling. A profound transformation, it seems, is at hand.

The Hour of Blue is based on the Gaia hypothesis, that Planet Earth is alive—a massive, complex, and sensitive organism capable of maintaining the balances essential for life and fully able to protect itself against threats from without or within. A visionary work of speculative fiction, the novel first appeared over three decades ago, at a time when the effect of human activity on the planet and the magnitude of the climate crisis were not generally understood. Thanks for considering.

David Thomas | 5 comments Hi :)

My eBook is currently available to download for free via Amazon for the next week (https://www.amazon.com/Luna-David-Tho...).

Told in ‘real time’ over the span of four harrowing days, and by a first-person narrator, “Luna” is the story of the first human to be born outside of Earth. The story picks up just before his eighteenth birthday, and how that milestone is going to be celebrated due to his historic status.

However, an unprecedented disaster strikes, cutting off his home (a lunar colony) from Earth. Soon, that home becomes a ‘sinking ship’ - with time quickly running out, he (and those around him) realize that no one is coming to help them and that they must take matters into their own hands in order to survive...

While the tale borders on young adult, it has been accessible to readers of all ages and is 'grounded'/near-future science fiction that is ultimately about family, courage and the human spirit. Think 'Gravity', 'The Martian', or even 'Titanic' (but in space!)...

Thank you.
