PtP - The Dazzling Dazzle (3)

2. Lead Rapper - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)
3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of Black & White, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)
Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 7 September.
4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)
5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!
* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.
You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.
I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.
Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.
6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.
7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.
8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.
9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)
10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.
The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

For selection post Option 1 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.
If the theme is based off the bookcover, post the cover. If there is a letter count in the title, publication date etc, please note these details.
For selection post Option 2 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.
For selection post Option 3 you must have:
Week #
PASS
For the completion post you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review
Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.
If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.
IF YOU NEED TO CORRECT A POST FOR MISSING INFORMATION or because the didn't qualify etc, please REPOST this information in a NEW post. I don't want to have to keep going backwards in the thread.

A little about me:
I've lost count how many times I've done this challenge... I think my first was in 2015 - I'm too lazy to do the math but I think I'm hitting double digits!
I read romance almost exclusively and as such have been doing challenges in this group since 2014 I think. Hard to imagine I've been involved here that long!
I live in Indiana and am married with 2 boys and 2 dogs. My boys are grown and out of the house (well, the college-aged one keeps coming back!) but those fur-babies keep me busy. I work full time as a marketing project manager and do that 100% from home - so there are sometimes weeks that go by that I don't leave the house. Things get a little scary around here when that happens! 🤪 Just kidding! I don't cook much so a few nights a week the hubby and I head out somewhere for dinner, so I actually do leave the house most days.
I hope the newbies find this challenge fun and relaxing - it's only one book a week with a soft deadline, so the pressure is low. By soft deadline I mean that you don't have to finish your chosen book within the week it's chosen but you also can't fall more than 2 books behind. I'll keep us posted on what is outstanding as will Jane - until the last week. She won't pop in to tell us what we're missing that last week and if we want to compete for the win, we will all need to have all books read and posted by the last call and then read quickly for the last book.
But more on all that later! For now, just relax, read and HAVE FUN!!

1. Team name - it's good to have it reflect the theme and/or play on our team number but it doesn't have to. Please share any ideas you have then check back in and let us know your favorite before we decide.
2. Selection AND Completion posts - as noted in the rules, we need both for this challenge and they need to be separate. When you finish your book, post a new completion post, don't update your selection post.
3. Broken book links - I would dearly love you if you included a broken book link in your selection post - it makes the copy/paste to our official team check-in post SO much easier, plus it ensures I am adding the edition you actually read to the check-in post. To create a broken book link: copy the GR book link you added to your selection post, paste it at the bottom of your selection post but add an * or and extra space after the first bracket. An example:
Breathe
[*book:Breathe|20494223]
I would super appreciate this but it's not a rule, so if you forget, no worries!
4. Weekly calls - Jane posts the weekly call in the Q&A/Announcement thread on Fridays, usually around 6pm US ET. I will re-post it on this thread as well for convenience - but if I don't get to it right away, it's always available in that Q&A/Announcement thread.
5. Listopia lists - if you haven't already explored the lists Jane posted in the Q&A/Announcement thread for the weekly themes, please do so. The weeks where we MUST choose from a list, series substitions DO NOT apply, so take some time now BEFORE the challenge starts to add to the lists if a book you might want to read isn't there. Once the challenge starts, you should not be adding books to the listopias. For Option 2 each week (reading off a team mate's shelf), series subs may be used.
I think that's it for now - if you have questions, feel free to ask. Also, Jane has really good FAQ posts in the Q&A/Announcement thread, so read over those but as I said, feel free to ask here if something isn't clear.

Hi Benita - I deleted your reserved posts. These are only needed by the Captain (LaurLa). You will post your selection and completion posts each week - first one (selection) when I have announced the task and you know which book you will read for the task. And the second (completion) is once you have read your selected book.
Things will become clear on how this all runs when we get underway :) Don't worry about it too much at this stage ~ you have successfully completed the first thing = the introduction 🤓

Welcome Benita! As Jane said, it will likely become clearer as we get underway. But I'm happy to answer if you still have questions!

This is my first time with this challenge, but I'm a long-time challenge junkie, so I figure I'll pick it up pretty quickly.
My favorite genres are Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Romance. But I'll read anything for a challenge, except Horror (and I have occasionally come across books that are tagged as horror, even if they aren't super dark/scary, so I might even read Horror if needed).

Sorry. I read the instructions and misunderstood the part about reserving posts...probably not the last time I mess up...

In the meantime, any team name ideas??

I like zebras...or maybe pandas? I love pandas. But don't want to be the skunks : - )

I like that! Something like the razzle dazzles or the frazzled razzle dazzles

I take part in a lot of challenges across several group on Goodreads and I've taken part in this one a few times now.
I read mostly contemporary romance and fantasy.
I like The Dazzling Dazzle of Team 3

I also like The Dazzling Dazzle of Team 3

Hi Jillian. You sound like me married, 2 boys 2 dogs and almost nothing but romance! I'm in Indiana, not Michigan but we at least got the same time zone going 😊

Most of all get ready to have some fun!

Most of all get..."
Sorry...I'm a newbie...could you do links to those spots?

..."
These are in the Q&A thread and Sign Up thread. LaurLa's post #17 is directly above in this thread.

Thank you

Sorry, I didn't think to direct you to where those things would be found. I guess I'm so used to checking the beginning posts in threads, I didn't realize that might not be something someone new to challenges would think about.
Please let me know if you have any other questions - I am usually on very early mornings (US eastern time) or evenings. So I may not respond within hours but I'll respond usually within a day :-)

I've been checking as I'm going away on Saturday and would love to finish my book beforehand.
And this was a great one for me this week as I already have a book planned that fits.

An Heiress's Guide to Deception and Desire
Precis: This is book 2 of what will be a 3 book series by my fellow Alabamian academic, Manda Collins. It is a regency romance centered on the mystery of a missing actress wherein the lead heroine, Caroline Hardcastle, is a popular true crime columnist who does investigations of the mysterious events in the popular press. Funny, smart banter, some romance. Reading book 1 is not necessary to enjoy this book. Book 3 in series is scheduled March 2023.

Are you using the app? There's no way I know of to do it in the app. When you're on a browser (if on a mobile browser, go to bottom and click view desktop version), and you're typing up your comment, there is a link at the top of the comment box, "add book/author". You search for your book. To post the cover, just click the cover circle at the bottom of the list.
