⭒October 2022 BOTM Nominations⭒
I nominate The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, Thorn by Intisar Khanani, and Unblemished by Sara Ella.

Please help me get The Silm upvoted into the poll! 🥺 It's my favorite book, and I really want to talk about it with y'all. If our friendship means anything, I know you will help me!
(🤣 Well, I can't actually force y'all to second it (that would be ruining the democracy of Faith & Fantasy! *gasps in horror*), but if you're willing, I would appreciate it so much. Thanks! 🤗)

You can also nominate books you'd like to see the group read, too, as long as they don't break the rules we have above. 🙂

@Lily, I know I said I now want to read The Silmarillion, but with school just starting, I may not be up for a heavy read. Sorry, Lily! :(
I will second Thorn, though! It's a great book, and I'd love to do a re-read with this group. XD

I nominate A Wrinkle in Time.

Ah, that makes sense. I was just thinking The Silm and October, you know? It's not like it's a spooky book, but it would fit the month a little!

It looks like a great book! Some of my GR friends did say it's for mature audiences and has a few paragraphs between a married couple that might make some people a little uncomfortable. It's a book I would pick up, though. If it wins, I'll give a content warning as a heads-up.

I saw that you liked a few reviews of it in my feed, I read them and agree that it sounds more mature than I first thought, sorry about that! :))

That's okay! Reviews can be so helpful sometimes. Would you like to still keep your nomination or choose something different?

I'll keep my nomination but completely understand that people may feel uncomfortable with the writing so I don't expect it to win for October :))

Hey, Danielle! Helena's right, but I'll add the first two books of those first two series. It looks like I, Eliza Hamilton is historical fiction, though, so I'm not going to count that one.

I found an interesting article about the Christian themes in the series if anyone is interested? However, I won't link it unless I have permission.

My Aunt actually wrote her collage thesis on the Christian aspects of the series!
if other people are okay with it being nominated then I will totally second it!
I especially think book five has some very relevant aspects to our times in it.

That seems fair! I think so too. :)
I love the HP series, and while a few of the spells cross a nebulous line in my spirit, I, too, find them chock full of Christian themes. Particularly self-sacrifice for the good of others.
So I don't really understand the nominations and seconds, but I think I can nominate Thorn. (I already seconded it.)
I think I can nominate another, so I nominate The Thief. (But I might get emotional if folks don't like it.😥 Just being honest.😄)
Their are a couple of content warnings about The Thief. This is set in a polytheistic culture and there are several instances of their gods names being taken in vain. At first it bothered me, then I realized it was not referring to MY God, so I don't mind it much anymore. I just wouldn't read it out loud; I can skip it in my head. There might be passing references to extramarital affairs, but nothing is described. (This is remembered of the series, not necessarily this book.)
Ok, for all you "bottom line" people, stop reading now. For those who like a bit more information, read on!
Ok, now I know I linked The Thief there, but it's honestly best if you don't read the book blurb and especially important not to read reviews, as it ruins the book(s). Here's my review instead: (Cheeky of me??😬)
As this series is all about the thrill of discovery, one cannot write a review of this book without taking away from the experience of it, so my review is really advice. The best way to read this book (and series), is to not read anything about it, as I did not, and instead, just open and read. Let the author take you on a walk (yes, it seems slow at first) and, when you get tired, let her take your hand and beckon you onward. Read to the end. Smile large. RE-read it, because you just must, then keep reading the rest of the series until you get to the end of the last where your satisfied, yet overflowing heart will have you reaching again for The Thief to start the journey over again. Only this time you will be more wise and ready to go deeper and discover more in your journey through the Little Penninsula.
Edit to add:
I think it is important to think of The Thief as the prologue to the greater story that follows.

When do we find out the BOTM for October? Sometimes I have to wait a while for my library book requests.

Ah, yes. I didn't realize she was the only one to make the call. Thanks, Ellie!

1) You are allowed to nominate a maximum of 3 books for each month's BOTM.
2) The book(s) you nominate must have fantasy as a main genre and be clean or relatively clean.
3) If you can, try to nominate books from Christian authors as much as possible. It doesn't have to have obvious spiritual themes, but please don't ever nominate a book with theme(s) that clash with biblical truth.
4) If someone has already nominated a book that you wanted to nominate, I will only be picking the top 3-6 nominations to vote on in the final poll, so the more nominations a book has, the more likely it will become the BotM.
5) You can second a total of 6 books or (nominate a total of 3). If you're going to both nominate book(s) and second book(s) as well, you just have to make sure you don't exceed 3 nominations per month and 6 in total (seconds + nominations). Hope that makes sense!
Also, please do not nominate any books that we have already read in the past twelve months. You can view the books Faith & Fantasy has already read here.
Nominations will be open until the middle of September at the latest, and then I will send out a poll for all of us to vote for the BotM based on this thread's nominations.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask them below.
