Team Challenge
September 1, 2022- November 30, 2022

Please take some time and choose a team name. Let me know once you have decided on one.

Team
✔️Lexi
✔️Judith
✔️Jenny

Team Spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Scoreboard
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Rules
🧛Each monster has specific chains that need to be completed.
Examples:
1. Create a chain of 3 using titles consecutively (ABC)
-All the Light We Cannot See
-Becoming Mrs. Lewis
-Catching Fire
2. Create a chain of 3 with "dog" in the titles
-Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike
-The Dog Stars
-Hot Dog Girl

🧛One person should NOT complete a whole chain by themselves. This is a team challenge.
🧛You may choose which creature to capture first but you MUST complete it BEFORE starting a new creature.
🧛You may use or drop articles: A, An, The
🧛If you somehow manage to incorporate a Formal Buddy Read book into a chain, you will earn 2 bonus points. See the buddy read folder for the current book. They are also listed in the spreadsheet dropdown list (when your team has a thread & spreadsheet assigned to them).
🧛Standard Rules Apply

Scoring
You will get 3 points for every completed book (9 per completed chain) PLUS page points.

While you wait for the game to start... here's a jigsaw puzzle related to the challenge: https://www.jigsawplanet.com/?rc=play...

Lexi | 781 comments Hi all

message 4: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments Hello ladies

message 5: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments hi guys!

message 6: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments Any ideas on a Team Name? I am rubbish at this . . .

Maybe Weyward Witches since there are 3 of us like the 3 witches from Macbeth?

Or something more silly?

message 7: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments Also, is there a monster people would like to start with? I looked through the tasks and don't have a preference

message 8: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments They are also called The Weird Sisters.
I like that too.

I didn't have time over the weekend to check the tasks, so I do not have a preference yet. If I have time today, I will.

message 9: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments I am reading several books this week with black covers (Frankenstein). None of the books I have currently planned have the scary animals or houses on the cover.

Should we start with the harder stuff, knowing we can easily get chains of consecutive series numbers or letters?

message 10: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments Well, we have to go monster by monster. So maybe just go by tab order (starting with Mummy)?

And we have to wait until Sept 1st to start the books, right?

message 11: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments I am good with starting with Mummy.

I like The Weird Sisters as a group name.

I think this group is usu read by date.

message 12: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments Mummy it is then!

message 13: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments I found a Mummy in title book on KU that looks good but it's just under 300 pages so I don't really want to use it for MRR.

But if I have to wait, I can wait. I'm probably going to read some short ones anyway.

message 14: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments You could read this one on KU - A Bottle Full of Djinn / Loony Town / Mummy Issues

message 15: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments Or we could start on the other side with Zombie and work backwards

message 16: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments I will likely just try to find short ones on KU, and just not use them for MRR. I still have Turf going when MRR starts, and I tend to read a bunch of shorties for Turf. I'm sure I can find titles that do double duty, so I am good with either Mummy or Zombie. I will try to use longer books for the non-title-word tasks though.

message 17: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments I have a Mummy in title and pumpkin on cover found.

Maybe we can do zombies after mummy?

A few shorter ones mixed in needs to happen for my sanity. I can't just read 500+ page books. My brain needs some shorter ones too. I'm not Sammy :P

message 18: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments Sounds good to me. I'll go look for Mummy books.

message 19: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments What are you all reading for Mummy? I looked and have not found much.

message 20: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments If I don't find a fun title in KU later, I might go with The Mummy Case (Amelia Peabody, #3) by Elizabeth Peters .
Peters is usually good for a giggle or two.

message 21: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments I’m reading Mummy’s Favorite (it’s on KU) by Sarah Flint.

For the pumpkin I’m reading a Nocturne Falls book, the whole series has a pumpkin on the cover.

message 22: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments I'm listing a some of the books I have on deck that can be used (or not) for either the title or series number chains.

The Paris Apartment (stand alone)
Fevered Star (2nd in series, library book)
The Kingdom of Copper (2nd in series, library book)
The Lies of Locke Lamora (1st in series)

As I'm sure you both know, I can find anything we need in my varies piles of books. But 3 of these are time sensitive so thought I'd toss them out there in case they are of use in chain construction.

message 23: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments I will be reading Locke Lamora as well, and will start September with Foundryside (first in series), and Antarctica (stand alone).

When I was looking for a mummy book on Kindle, and typed in mummy, mummy romance came up as a first suggestion. If you need a giggle, go look at some of those possibilities. I was tempted to grab a totally filthy book just based on the title alone, a but then remembered that I would probably remember some of what I read, and brain bleach isn't really a thing.

message 24: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments I realized the favorite is supposed to have a "u" in it. Now that I'm on a computer, here's the link to the book I found on KU

Mummy's Favourite

message 25: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments Ok, for now, I have:
J - Lexi (Jack)
K - Judith (Kingdom)
L - Jenny (Lies)

1 - Jenny (Foundryside)
2 - Judith (Fevered Star)
3 - Lexi (Terminal Peace)

message 26: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments Looks like a good plan to me!

message 27: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments Me too. I also found a mummy and a pumpkin book. Neither is terribly long, but my other two are, so we will get some page points anyway.

message 28: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments Now, I just need to figure it I should read the entire cozy trilogy or just the Mummy one - Mummy Issues.

My pumpkin one should be fun - Dark Harvest

message 29: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments That does look like fun.
I almost grabbed your mummy book, but I went with a different one. I think it is third or fourth in the series. Not in front of my Kindle at the moment.

message 30: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments Do you think this is a spider?
Viscera by Gabrielle Squailia

message 31: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments Lexi wrote: "Do you think this is a spider?
Viscera by Gabrielle Squailia"

I would accept that as a spider

message 32: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments I would rather not meet it in person, so yes, a spider.

Looks like a spider to me...

Hi team! I have a question for you. I am getting questions about finishing early and redoing tasks for higher points. Would you like an opportunity for a bonus monster instead? The bonus monster would have a couple of extra books required because it is a higher difficulty monster to chain. Thoughts? I want input from all the teams before I go forward with offering the bonus.

message 36: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments I’d vote for a bonus monster over a redo

message 37: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments Me too.

message 38: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments I agree. I would go with the bonus monster. If I did not find a long mummy book the first time, I am not going to want to read another one.

message 39: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments I will finish my Mummy books tomorrow. Is there any chance we can start Vampire on Monday?

message 40: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments Sure, why not? Are you starting a book with bats on the cover?

message 41: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments Only if Judith gets hers done in time and no rush, if not doable.
I need one for another challenge I rather not read two of, and my color book is about to return itself to the library and then I will be 10th in line.

message 42: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments I always forget about library downloads. I was picturing a roving librarian on your doorstep demanding the return of the about to be late book.

Scary.

message 43: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments No fines but then they just disappear on you. You can put the e-reader in airplane mode, and sometimes that gives you a bit longer.

message 44: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments Maybe? I’m about 2/3 through Kingdom of Copper and then I need to read my Mummy book. that one should go quickly, it’s going to partially be hinged on how much reading I can get done during Cameron’s nap times

message 45: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments No worries if no. I'll just wait and see where you are Monday morning.

message 46: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 916 comments I just finished The Kingdom of Copper and will start Mummy’s Favourite later today. I should finish it in time to start Vampire on Monday

message 47: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments Yay, thank you, I'll get mine done tonight as well

message 48: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2163 comments Any suggestions for bats, haunted housed on cover, or vampire in title? Ones that are worth reading? I have found cozy mysteries that fit, but would prefer something better. teehee

message 49: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 781 comments I am reading Scream All Night by Derek Milman for bats. Empire of the Vampire for vampire, which is the one I wanted to not have to read a second vampire book. Likely, The Children on the Hill by Jennifer McMahon for house.

There are some helpful links in the Q&A that might help you find a book.
