Also, notes from last game:
1. Poetry books and plays count as books with a page limit of 150 pages *unless* you read more than one. If you read more than one, they are going to count as graphic novels with the 200 page limit and pages halved.
2. One prompt per book. You can complete multiple prompts multiple times, but you'll need a different book each time.
3. Please use the pages listed in Goodreads for the edition of the book you are reading (if it's an audiobook, use a comparable printed edition on Goodreads). Don't go hunting for the edition that's 100 pages longer than everything else.
4. Have fun!

If the prompts could be somehow related to halloween characters (ghosts, vampires, witches, monsters...) would be awesome for me!

Sorry, that was misleading! I'm not going anywhere. I'll still be the challenges mod, but I won't be hosting the team games anymore (we'll still have the team games, but I'm not going to be the lead mod on them).

I made the theme: Gods And Monsters
Category 1:With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility (gods, divine leaders, superheroes)
1. MC or title is someone with great power (god, queen/king, president, pope, tsar, etc.)
2. MC has a superpower or special ability (incl. witchcraft/sorcery, magic, alien)
3. Mythological story or retelling
4. MC is the "chosen one"
5. Gold or silver on the cover or in the title
Category 2: Children Of The Grave (zombies, devils)
1. "Dead", "Die", "Death or similar variation in the title
2. Book published posthumously or adapted/continued on by another author after death of original author (e.g., Micro by Michael Crichton, Millenium series continues by David Lagencrantz after Stieg Larsson, Anne Hillerman books continuing on Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn and Chee series, adaptations of Jane Austen books such as Pride Prejudice and Zombies)
3. Subject or theme is a pandemic, virus or fatal disease (such as cancer) or where the MC is impacted heavily by these.
4. Author is from or book is primarily set in Mexico/Latin America
5. Black or grey colors on cover or in title (incl. ebony, slate, charcoal)
Category 3: Spirits In the Material World (ghosts, teke teke, pontianak, preta, dybbuk, diao sigui)
1. Theme of book is a haunting or involves some sort of ghostly spirit(s)
2. MC is haunted by an event or series of events in their past
3. Book published before you were born
4. Translated best seller
5. Cover is primarily (or all) white or has white in title (incl. vanilla, cream, snow?)
Category 4: Howlin' For You (werewolves, were creatures, shapeshifters)
1. "Wolf", "Wolves" or similar variation in the title
2. Canine or feline is either a MC or is on the cover
3. MC or primary environment undergoes or deals with a significant metamorphosis (e.g., onset or resolution of a mental illness, changeling, terraforming)
4. Author or MC is indigenous
5. Author or MC is transgender or non-binary/nonconforming
Category 5: At Dawn They Sleep (bloodsuckers, vampires, adze, manananggal, chupacabra)
1. "Blood", "Bleed", or similar variation in the title
2. A book in the gothic or horror genre
3. A paranormal romance or urban fantasy
4. A political or legal non-fiction or fiction book (joking that politicians and/or lawyers are bloodsuckers)

Oooh these are fantastic! I already have the team names and prompt categories (and I think you'll all really like them), but I might...steal a couple of those prompts! Thank you!

Impressive list! The themes prompts are always super fun for these games!

I've read 173 books so far this year and usually manage over 200. Disclaimer that I am in a "slump" though, reading only half my usual average this month. Life/ work is just too busy these days.

We're two years deep into a pandemic (and a career change!!)—it's okay if you're not okay, and with that in mind, you absolutely did not bomb the games.
Fingers crossed that Fright Night brings you out of your slump!

So excited for the books coming out this month! (Nona the Ninth and The Golden Enclaves especially)

I'm joining too, and in a team please.
As for my reading... I honestly don't know what to say 😅 So far I read 80 books, but I'm also in a slump what feels thought out the whole year so far, so I don't know how much I'll read. And there's also the fact that I usually was more active in the wintery games, but again the slump 😅 so... I have no idea.

I would like to join a team. I won’t be reading as much as I usually do for these challenges, but I do want to participate.

Would you like to join a team or go solo? And how many books do you read a year?

This must be the oddest request ever but can I maybe un-sign up because I have just been informed that the next 3 months of the year are my worst ones yet 3 I'm so sorry if this is a hassle

TIS TIME...FOR OUR BIG TEAM GAME!!
Fright Night starts October 1st and ends November 30th.
HOW TO JOIN
1. Reply to this thread with "I want to participate in a group" or "I want to participate by myself," and the number of books you read/listen to each year (this isn't to judge your reading habits but to attempt to create balanced teams).
2. The deadline to join a team is September 24th.
3. Anyone can join Fright Night as long as the competition lasts, but after September 24th all newcomers will be soloists.
RULES
✧ Members will be broken out into up to 3-5 separate teams (or go solo) before the start date (October 1st). You will work together to complete a series of tasks together and complete as many of them as you wish.
✧ Books must be read and reviewed during October 1st through November 30th. Any books or audiobooks started before October 1st or finished after November 30th will not count.
✧ If you read an Audiobook version of a book convert the hours to pages using this site: https://alamantus.itch.io/time-to-page or use the print equivalent on Goodreads.
✧ Graphic/Manga novels are accepted but will only count for half of the listed page count
✧ You must post at least 3 status updates OR a review. It doesn't have to be super detailed but try to not just say "this was good" for the book to count.
✧ For prompts: if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit, and it will not count.
✧ Minimum Lengths:
• Books: 150 pages
• Graphic Novels: 200 pages (halved=100 pages)
• Audiobooks: 150 pages (use GR print equivalent length)
POINT SYSTEM
+1 point for every book that has been read and reviewed that correlates with a prompt
+2 points for participating in a buddy read (must take place in the group)
+3 for one completed category
+4 points for reading/participating in a group read (must take place in the group)
+5 points for every 1,000 pages read
Note: Mods keep track of all points in a shared Google Sheets spread to keep everything as organized as possible.
Note 2: You must actively participate in a buddy or group read for the points to count. Lack of participation means no points!
