1. Chivalry by Neil Gaiman and Colleen Doran. A beautiful comic book adaptation of one of Gaiman's charming short stories, about an old lady who finds the holy grail in a Oxfam charity shop and is visited by Sir Galahad of King Arthur fame, who tries to trade her various mythical objects for it. Would recommend this even if you've never read Gaiman or a comic.
2. A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers. The second book in the Monk and Robot duology. A non-binary tea monk on a colonized moon continues their travels with a robot as the latter tries to find out what humanity "needs". Loved it.
3. Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. About an orc warrior who gives up the life of a. adventurer to...open a coffee shop. As weird as that sounds, it works and it easily lived up to the hype surrounding it.
4. Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Narrated by Coates himself and written as a "letter" to his son, the book is about (as far as I could gather) the constant perils of the black body in relation the rest of the world and the fact that in the U.S., that body can easily be destroyed. I'll readily admit that a lot of the meaning and depth went right over my head since I'm white, but I don't regret listening to this.
5. Storm Front by Jim Butcher. One of like maybe two books I've ever read thrice. The first book in an urban fantasy series about Harry Dresden, private investigator and the only practicing wizard in Chicago. Storm Front follows Dresden as he looks for a woman's missing husband, while also helping the Chicago PD figure out who is killing people with magic and how.
6. Fool Moon also by Butcher. As you can probably guess from the title, it involves werewolves. So many werewolves. Apparently this is like the least popular book of the series. I can understand why because it feels like Butcher overdid it on the peril.
7. And I Alone Survived by Lauren Elder. Holy moly guacamole, this book took me by surprise! It's a memoir about Lauren Elder's ordeal with a small plane she was flying in crashed near the top of a mountain in the High Sierras of California. The other two people in the plane sadly die the first day, and Elder is forced to climb down an almost vertical wall of rock and ice in order to make it to safety. All told, she traveled over twenty miles from the top of that mountain all the way to the closest town. And she did in wearing heeled leather boots and a skirt!
I didn't realize I had read so many books this month until I checked yesterday. I figured I had slacked off after hitting my GR reading challenge, but I guess I just can't.
