Janice (jamasc) | 59954 comments Need a little help with your TBR, or wishlist? This challenge will help you get things under control. Pick one of the letters in OCTOBER and determine its numeric value as below.

O -15
C - 3
T - 20
O - 15
B - 2
E - 5
R - 18

Pull up your shelf from "My Books". Sort the shelf by clicking on the # sign. Then scroll down till you find the corresponding number. Read the book that is in that position in one of your shelf.

General Rules:

1. The book may be in any format - paperback, ebook, audiobook.
2. The book may be combined with the Year Long Challenge and the Group Themed Read.
3. The book must be read between October 1 and October 31, 2022 (based on your local time zone).
4. The challenge is for one book. You may read more books if you chose but you may only report one.
5. The book must be 175 pages or more determined by the issue you read.

In the case of ebooks & audiobooks, use the hardcover or paperback edition to determine page length. From the book page, select “all editions”, then select the first paper edition as your guide. If reading an ebook and there is no paper edition, the ebook book must be at least 250 pages. If reading an audiobook and there is no paper edition, your book must be a minimum of 6 hours long.

There will be no scoring. When you report your completed challenge, tell us which letter you chose and give a short blurb about your book. What was the date you added the book to your shelf?

You only need one to complete the challenge, but you can read as many as you like.

Anna - How did you end up with 2 different books for "O"? They should both be the same book, #15 on your TBR.

I saw that Jennifer chose an alternate for one of her O's, but she wants to see how many she can do. You only need to read one book to complete the challenge, so no need to change the second O unless you are trying to complete them all.

message 16: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 1538 comments Once you read the first book it will shift all the later books down a number. So you could pick one number and keep going as many times as you want!

message 17: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19183 comments Oh, that's true, Vicki. Just read number 20 (for example), then your books shift by one and you can read the new #20.

I considered the shifting of books a little differently, but I think you could decide if you wanted to assign the books to the numbers before or after reading. I will likely only read one of them though, so my numbers won't change.

message 18: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59954 comments They can also designate different shelves. I have "to read" and "to listen to", so there's that option.

Kristie | 19183 comments Janice wrote: "They can also designate different shelves. I have "to read" and "to listen to", so there's that option."

Thank you for clarifying that, Janice. I'm not sure how to make those numbers show up on my other shelves. Would it work to order by date added and just count down?

Edit: This won't work because I end up with a lot of older books that I've already read first. I don't have my shelves sorted in a helpful manner for this, so I'll just stick with the original TBR shelf.

message 20: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59954 comments I think they need to be exclusive shelves.

message 21: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59954 comments You could pick "to read" and "wishlist" if you have a wishlist shelf.

message 22: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19183 comments I don't have a wishlist shelf. I have an audible shelf, but it combines to read and read books. No worries. I'll just pick one of the originals. They look good and they've been sitting on my shelf forever.

C - 3 The Coffin Dancer
T - 20 Rubyfruit Jungle

Interesting to look back at what I wanted to read in 2016. I think I might be able to read at least 1 of these this month. Although, Rubyfruit Jungle has been on here since I joined GR and I have yet to find a copy of it to borrow or buy used.

I started listening to this one a couple of days ago. I'm finding it more romantic than I usually like. I will give it one more hour and decide if I keep going or dnf it.
