The Duke and the Lady in Red by Lorraine Heath

Join us in reading this HR that features the theme it’s all about the money. Happy reading!

Synopsis:

Sparks fly in the finale of the Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James Place series, as the last wicked rogue meets his match.

When Rosalind Sharpe gains the attention of the deliciously wicked Duke of Avendale, she’s torn between her distracting attraction to the notorious rogue and the knowledge that he—rich as Croesus—is the perfect target for a deception that will put her swindling days behind her.

However, Avendale is no fool. After he discovers the tantalizing lady packing up to leave London with his coins in tow, he confronts her with a scandalous proposition: she can have all the money she requires…for a week in his bed.

Desperate for the funds, Rose agrees, but on one condition: he must never question her motives. Avendale quickly sees beneath her mask and discovers she is more than passion and pleasure—she is everything he has ever desired. But claiming her requires he unveil her secrets and lose her forever. Unless he can put his own dark past aside and risk everything for a chance at love.

Maureen | 189 comments I just picked up this book from the Library. I started reading it and I am intrigued so far. It looks like a good one. The two MCs are both cunning and there is attraction but it is also a mind game pitting their wits against each other. The h is in it to win and the H gets high on playing the game.

It is #3 in the series. Do you think it is necessary to read the first two books?

It is not necessary to read the first two books to enjoy this one as there is no ongoing story arc.

That said, this entire series is a spin-off of the The Scoundrels of St. James about the generation before Whit's (the duke). While the necessary backstory is proved in this book, if you are like me and prefer to read in order, you might actually want to start with the first series. Its a wonderful series too.

I finished this one today. I really enjoyed it - and even had a tear in my eye towards the end.

My only gripe is that I was intrigued by the mystery around Avendale's parent's and it was resolved over about 1 page, they all forgave each other and lived happily ever after....it was quite a let down.

Lauren | 1392 comments @susan, glad you enjoyed this book too. I love how much heart the story had. I also forgot how great a writer Lorraine Heath really is. I need to try more of her books. I've read most of this series. if anyone has a favorite of LH to recommend I'd appreciate it.
