I haven't read Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft Locke & Key, Vol. 1 Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill but I hope to at some point this year.
I've never read a graphic novel before so I'm not sure I'm going to like that format (i'm also worried the print is going to be really small and hard to read-I swear I'm blind as a bat lol) but I want to give it a try.

still trying to decide if i want to read NOS4A2 by Joe Hill -will let you know if i read it.

Also trying to decide whether or not to read Horns by Joe Hill - i really want to see the movie-can't believe that's harry potter in the lead role lol

I also have 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill on my tbr- I think I added it after Christine read it for one of the challenges.

basically i read one of his books a while ago Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill and have been meaning to read him again. Maybe when i pick up his dad's new book later this year i'll get one of his too :D

I have only read Heart Shaped Box. I would like to read more

Danell (danellbookworm) | 686 comments I agree with you on the format of graphic novels. Never read one and not sure if I would enjoy it. Hopefully my library would have a copy or be able to obtain a copy for me. Spending hard earned money on a format I am not sure about does not sit well with me.

Curious about what you think about his work when you get to read Hill!

Stephen King has a new book out June 2. "Finders Keepers"! Woo Hoo!

I am currently reading Impulse by Ellen Hopkins. The subject matter is such that I have to keep taking a break from the book. The story of three teens in a mental institution.

The only two others I read, went together and I was able to relate to for several reasons. They were set in Nevada and dealt with Mormonism. They talked about the nuclear testing and how it affected people. My grandpa died as result of bone cancer caused by this testing. There is a high rate of cancer in Southern Utah where I grew up, and many believe it is because of the harmful effects of the testing carried by the wind from Nevada to Southern Utah. I highly recommend her two books Burned and Smoke.
Burned (Burned, #1) by Ellen Hopkins Smoke (Burned, #2) by Ellen Hopkins

I want to finish the crank trilogy and then I'm going to read burned & smoke.

Very sorry about your grandfather.

He died before I was born. I never met him. I only know him through stories and pictures.

I don't think I'm going to continue with the sequel to Impulse, but I would like to try more Ellen Hopkins because 1) I am impressed with the unique poetry/novel writing style and 2) I enjoyed Burned & Smoke so much. Which do you recommend?

I've only read 3 of her books
Impulse (Impulse, #1) by Ellen Hopkins , Perfect (Impulse, #2) by Ellen Hopkins , Crank (Crank, #1) by Ellen Hopkins

I really liked crank-I think it's her first book. It's inspired by Hopkin's daughter's struggle with meth addiction. I normally don't like poetry but I love her writing.

I really liked it-if you like psychological thrillers I would recommend it.

I didn't like the characters but I did like reading about them-no heroes/heroines in this story-they are all hot messes lol

message 68: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I do like psychological thrillers. I hope to get to it soon.

The Casual Vacancy was like that, full of unlikable characters but the writing was so good, you had to finish it.

Thanks for the update, Danell!:)

I really liked that book and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock-want to get his new book when it's released later this year Love May Fail

I've been meaning to listen to more audiobooks-glad you're enjoying them!

message 74: by Danell (new)

Danell (danellbookworm) | 686 comments Tried to listen to "Pride and Prejudice" yesterday and failed. Tried reading that book and also failed. It just doesn't pull me in. Since I have been working 10, sometimes more hours a day audio books are great way to pass the time, especially when driving.

Will have to check and see if the library can get or has "Red Rising" in audio, it is on my tbr list. Will also have to look into "Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock". Requested "What the Night Knows", "Strangers", and "Watchers" by Koontz all on audio. Grateful that we are allowed to check out 10 audio books on library card, stocked up since next week is Easter and will not have time to go to the library during the week.

I've never read Pride and Prejudice or anything by Jane Austen- i know I need to give her books a try but have a feeling they're going to bore me to tears-Have you read any of her other books?

I really need to re-read Watchers by Dean Koontz -it's been so long that I've forgotten most of it but I do remember loving the characters.

message 76: by Danell (new)

Danell (danellbookworm) | 686 comments I have never read anything by Jane Austen. Some people seem to love her, not sure if it was the book or not, perhaps I should try other of her works, some other time.

When I turned off the audio book a one direction song was on the radio, I screamed oh heck no and quickly switched radio stations. Between the English accents in the book and the lack of a hold it had on me, then to going to One Direction, my loud outburst was the release I needed!!

Watchers is one of my favorite Koontz books. Read it two times. It is far fetched, sorry for the pun, but the simplicity of the story is what I truly adore. And it would be awesome to come into contact with a golden retriever like that!

One Direction - the wrong direction :-)

message 79: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I've read Pride and Prejudice at least twice. I love it. It's one of my favorite books. I also love all the film versions of the book.

Speaking of re-reads, I just finished Dragonfly in Amber

This series is on my all time favorites list. My goal is to re-read the series this year.

Since I haven't knowingly heard a One Direction song, I can't make a judgement one way or another. I've been listening to a lot of Trampled by Turtles and Death Cab for Cutie lately.

Danell (danellbookworm) | 686 comments Death Cab for Cutie is good! With One Direction I need to remember that every generation has their boy band, or so it seems. Mine was New Kids on the Block. I had cassettes and posters, even saw them in concert. Did I just age myself or what?!

Hoping to finish "The Kite Runner" this weekend for part of the challenge.

Happy Easter! Happy Spring! Happy allergy season!
Happy reading!!

I was obsessed with Michael Jackson when the thriller album came out-love listening to the Jackson 5 too :)

Danell (danellbookworm) | 686 comments I haven't read Gerald's Game in years, need to revisit that one.

Michael Jackson was great!

Finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini . Great book.

The audio of "Watchers" is on hold for me at the library, hoping I can pick it up in the next few days. Having a key to the library would be a dream come true! Until then I am a poor working soul at the mercy of library hours.

Whatever you celebrate, hope you had a safe and joyous holiday!

If you read it Dustin let me know what you think.

Started listening to Watchers by Dean Koontz which I am going to count for a favorite book. Glad we don't have to read our all time favorite, not sure which book that would be. I have too many!!
