Lamilla | 818 comments Hi guys!

Hope you had a great start with the first hour sprint. Now tell me, how do you prefer to track your reading?

Do you count time spent or the pages? Are you using some tools, like excel? Or maybe you don’t really track it at all, just enjoying additional time spent reading during the readathon.

message 2: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathepsut) | 567 comments I started using StoryGraph for that this year. It tracks pages read as well as minutes listened to.

message 3: by Lena (new)

Lena | 364 comments I'm tracking pages sense I'm only reading one book this readathon. I'm started the book at the start of the readathon..so I'm just tracking on Goodreads.

message 4: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 127 comments i normally just keep a post-it note that i annotate pages read or minutes listened to (for audio) - then i update online as needed

message 5: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Great tips and tools, guys

Looks like a useful feature, Cathy!

Good luck with your reading, Lena

Nice to see that post-it notes are not forgotten in our age of tech, Dee!

message 6: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments On usual days I use goodreads (% for audiobooks and pages for paperbacks). For readathons I might track actual time spent reading, especially for the reading sprints

I managed to spend almost the whole hour reading for the sprint 1, so I'm on the right track :)

message 7: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments I track pages and time on audio here at GR.
This time i am starting all new books to make the tracking easier.

message 8: by Zihan (new)

Zihan (rizareads) | 8 comments I'm tracking how many pages read in each hour, mostly in my reading journal and on my discussion page in this group.
Also reading all new books for easier tracking and a “fresh start" for the readathon!

message 9: by Sara (new)

Sara Grace | 24 comments I usually track my reading with how many pages I read, but I also time myself. I usually just use Goodreads.

message 10: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Hope you'll make a good progress on your new books (or maybe finish some!), Vicky and Riza

I used to have a reading journal too, Riza! And a very organized approach to the readathon, I might say

Goodreads seems a popular choice, Sara! Us having the discussion on goodreads thread might have affected the statistics XD

message 11: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 80 comments Old school here. I jot down when I start something, and when I stop. Generally I don't want to have to go on to Story Graph too many times during the day, or get distracted by going onto my phone.

message 12: by Emma (new)

Emma | 168 comments I have a spreadsheet that I track pages/minutes plus snacks and interruptions.

And I have the post here on Goodreads

message 13: by Rachida (new)

Rachida | 152 comments I use goodreads to track the books i've read but i started using bookly on a daily bases this year and it's so helpful and easy to track my progress with it!

message 14: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 316 comments I track books, pages, and minutes. I just create a simple log in Goodreads to note everything down so I can focus on enjoying reading and then calculate at the end.

message 15: by Katherine (last edited Oct 22, 2022 07:03AM) (new)

Katherine Hayward Pérez | 61 comments I track books and chapters. Updates will be on my blog https://justkatherineblog.wordpress.com/

as well as Goodreads and Twitter @theglitzqueen.

Am now on chapter 5 (Day 5) of Unhackable Soul: Rise Up, Feel Alive, and Live Well with Pain and Illness Unhackable Soul Rise Up, Feel Alive, and Live Well with Pain and Illness by Maureen Sharphouse

This memoir is amazing

To track pages and time read I use a combination of Bookly and Storygraph. For overall tracking I have Goodreads, a reading journal, the blog, and instagram.

message 17: by Laura (new)

Laura H | 169 comments Goodreads, but I like these all these ideas, mostly a post-it!

message 18: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Jennifer wrote: " Generally I don't want to have to go on to Story Graph too many times during the day, or get distracted by going onto my phone."
Valid point! We can spend this time doing something more valuable, like reading!

message 19: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (morr_books) | 116 comments I love hearing everyone's tracking ideas! I track pages and number of finished books in a bullet journal. I don't track time, because I literally do read for the full 24 hours, going back and forth between physical reads and audiobooks (when my eyes need a break).

message 20: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Emma wrote: "...track pages/minutes plus snacks and interruptions."
Snacks are important part of our readathon for sure *getting another load of watermelon*

Rachida wrote: "I started using bookly on a daily bases this year and it's so helpful and easy to track my progress with it!"
Noted!

message 21: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Elizabeth wrote: "... so I can focus on enjoying reading and then calculate at the end."
Agree, that's why we are reading, after all!

Kimberly wrote: "To track pages and time read I use a combination of Bookly and Storygraph. For overall tracking I have Goodreads, a reading journal, the blog, and instagram"
You are so organized! And another mention of bookly and storygraph, I might take a look in the future

message 22: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 127 comments i typically use twitter update/ goodreads/ storygraph etc as audiobook time - so i'm still doing something readathon released while catching up

message 23: by Samanta (new)

Samanta (almacubana) | 25 comments I'm tracking the pages at and put them on my Goodreads thread in another group marking them as read during this Readathon.

message 24: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Thanks for the recommendation, Katherine!

Laura wrote: "Goodreads, but I like these all these ideas, mostly a post-it!"
same here, might try something myself after this!

Sarah wrote: " I don't track time, because I literally do read for the full 24 hours"
wow, that's impressive!

message 25: by Pasty Hag (new)

Pasty Hag | 89 comments I used to use an Excel doc that Book Riot put out each year, but this year I haven't used it much. I use GR and a notebook to track my reading

message 26: by Lidya (new)

Lidya (schadenfreudes) | 21 comments I just use Goodreads to track my readings. Considering to use other platforms as well but it's too much trouble. I have a blog that I'd be happy to update regularly in the near future.

message 27: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Samanta wrote: "I'm tracking the pages at and put them on my Goodreads thread in another group marking them as read during this Readathon."
sounds complicated!

Dee wrote: "i typically use twitter update/ goodreads/ storygraph etc as audiobook time"
good strategy

Lidya wrote: "Considering to use other platforms as well but it's too much trouble."
I can totally relate

Lamilla | 818 comments Beatrice Longbottom wrote: "I used to use an Excel doc that Book Riot put out each year, but this year I haven't used it much. I use GR and a notebook to track my reading"

I think I've heard about it somewhere, not sure if I looked at it though

message 29: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Thanks everyone for sharing tips and tools!

Any new comments are welcome as well

message 30: by Steph (new)

Steph Anya (stephanya) | 19 comments I mostly track on Goodreads! One of the reasons that I love reading digitally is because I know how many minutes I will and have spent per chapter. It helps me be realistic when considering how much time I'll need to finish a book. Hoping to be able to start and finish one today!

message 31: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 57 comments I don't like counting them, only when I participate in reading sprints. In that moment I just check the page I'm at when I start the reading sprint and when we stop, I count the pages.

message 32: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla | 818 comments Good luck with the book, Stephanie!

Dana wrote: "I don't like counting them, only when I participate in reading sprints. In that moment I just check the page I'm at when I start the reading sprint and when we stop, I count the pages."
Sounds reasonable!

Interesting

message 34: by Ash (new)

Ash (essentiallyash) | 12 comments I'm mostly tracking on Goodreads, I count each book read, less than the time it takes. I always try to read the shortest books during the readathon that I can, because I try to finish as many as possible. It's a challenge for me every readathon to read more than the last.
