For readathons do you rely on Sleep or Caffeine more to get through the readathons?

I do a mix of both. I try to get at least 5 hrs of sleep but also use caffeine like coffee and soda.

Lena | 364 comments I do both...I do plan a sleeping period...although some unplanned naps creep in too. I drink caffeinated beverages throughout the readathon!

Vanessa Dargain | 503 comments Caffeine . There's so many cool ways to prepare a coffee drink .
But I usually don't do an all-nighter .

Carol Evans | 18 comments I always fall asleep between 2 and 3, which is fine since I have to play at church in the morning

Vikki | 5 comments If I don’t sleep I’ll be useless at work next week, so no late night caffeine for me!

I make sure to get enough sleep the night before, and hold off using much caffeine til the last third of the readathon. I am also making a sugary treat, tapioca pudding, for energy in the second half, along with regular snacks and water all day. Sometimes I still need a doze for an hour or two, but hopefully not this time.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1435 comments I do like to sleep. I'm always bummed to miss the ending, which is why I prefer Reverse Readathon. That way I'm wide awake at start AND end with sleep in between.

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 80 comments I have to sleep for health reasons. Honestly if I tried to stay up all night I wouldn't remember half of what I read anyway.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (morr_books) | 116 comments I actually don't sleep for the full 24 hours. I don't get a lot of free time to read, so this readathon is my reading time. I rely on hydration (lots of water) and occasionally being active with some audiowalking or audiohousework.

Laura H | 169 comments Diet pepsi and sleep whenever ,

Cathy (cathepsut) | 567 comments It‘s almost 2 a.m. here and my eyes are burning. I need to sleep, otherwise I will be useless tomorrow…

message 16: by Lidya (new)

Lidya (schadenfreudes) | 21 comments I just woke up from a sound sleep. I think I slept for 7 hrs. I am ready to continue the readathon.

message 17: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 57 comments This time I decided to stay awake all 24 hours. It's 3:40 a.m. and I'm doing pretty well!

message 18: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments I don't do caffeine, but I have never been able to stay awake for the whole thing. Sometimes I take a few strategic naps and sometimes I just sleep my regular sleep.

message 19: by Ash (new)

Ash (essentiallyash) | 12 comments This is so hard, normally I rely fully on caffeine, and it doesn't usually work. I slept like crap last night and I'm already starting to feel a crash. I'm going to stay up as late as I can (I've never made it past like 4 AM) and then maybe I'll take a nap, but I have a feeling that once I'm asleep, I'll be down for the count.

message 20: by Amy (new)

Amy | 15 comments We (my spouse and I) usually nap. But this time, I have had some coffee and tea. So far, I haven’t needed a nap but we did sleep in/start late so we will see closer to the end.

I fell asleep around 3 am (Sunday) and finally got up at 1 pm today (Sunday)! Ugh! I missed the end of the readathon but oh well. I'm not getting up so early for day 1 next time! I think I'll just try my regular sleep schedule next readathon, so I get up at 9 am on Saturday and go to bed between 2-3 am on Sunday.
