Kristine | 282 comments The Book of Fire by Christy Lefteri , Christy Lefteri. Beautifully written, heartbreaking story of a village that is burnt in a devastating fire. The effect is it Burns people emotionally, but a thread of hope always runs through the story and continues. I had both the book and the audio. 5 ⭐️. Great read to understand nature and the effects climate change is having on our lives.

Susan Christ | 7 comments First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston. I liked it as is grabs you right from the start. No slow build. It keeps you guessing. While I was able to figure out part of the twist; it still had me guessing.

Kristine | 282 comments I just finished the Audio 🎧 of The Collected Regrets of Clover by Mikki Brammer . I really enjoyed it, gave it 4 Stars. It was an unusual story as Clover is a death doula, which means she helps people transition from living to dying. It isn’t morbid though, actually it’s a very hopeful book.

Here is my review if anyone is interested. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Kristine | 282 comments I just stayed up late to finish, The Ballad of Stevie Pearl by SW Hammond , SW Hammond. This just was a poorly written book and I was quite disappointed. There were constant references to women as b*itches and it was not in a context that fit the book.
I gave this one 1 Star. Here is my review if you are interested:

Just these types of books turn me off when there are so many excellent ones.

Olivia Allison wrote: "paper Palace. wasnt a fan"

Yes, I listened to the audio book and decided to stop listening. Wasn't a fan either - I didn't empathise with the main character and found some of the events in the story more disturbing than anything (rather than adding depth to the characters).

Kristine | 282 comments Madness Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum by Antonia Hylton , Antonia Hylton. This was such a well written and researched book by an empathetic and intelligent author. It is shameful the practices we as a nation allow to go on for decades. Now, it is time we actually did something to improve the lives of black mentally ill people who have much to offer.

Here is my 5 Star Review if anyone is interested:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

For Black History Month this one is definitely knowledge needed. I was very upset and disturbed reading many practices. Please let’s acknowledge our mistakes and make progress.
