Thrillers are often a ramped up variation on the action/adventure novel, and basic survival may be the goal, rather than defeating a bad guy while surviving oneself. Throw in enough blood and guts and scary scenes and it may also become horror, though many horror novels are the gross cousin of fantasy novels too.
If there is a better genre for your book (fantasy, sci-fi, etc.), put your book there, but there are a lot of action/adventure books that do not really belong in other genres.
