"Horror is a genre of fiction which is intended to frighten, scare, or disgust."(wikipedia). Books that are gross or scary but as a sidenote to the plotline may be more thriller, action adventure, or fantasy(it may be both horror and another genre, but remember you can only pick 2 genres for your book in this game). If you think your book is aimed at scaring or disgusting the reader, as it primary aim, your book may belong in this category.

The Vampyre by John William Polidori who was the doctor accompanying or attending Lord Byron on his visit to Switzerland that also included in the party Mary Shelley. Although the writing is far from great and may only be good, the plotting of the story and the development of character of the vampire stand out, are innovations of the vampire genre.
