That’s blue and no we won’t be over analysing all covers. Just ask if you’re unsure and we’ll see. I don’t like using TinEye as I think it’s a pain and just complicates things.

Excellent.
Yay.

♞ Pat Gent | 916 comments Ran it through Tin-Eye. The artwork image itself is 72% blue, so I'm saying "yes" it's blue.

;-)

And I'm cool with NOT using Tineye if we don't want to. But if we get a challenge on it, it's nice to have a rationale support for it. Just me and my preference for numbers.

Those who don't know me? I used to be a math professor in my former life. Don't worry. I'm normal now. Kind of.

Tornados in November. How weird is that? Felt like May here yesterday until about 3p - and then, well, somebody cut the barbed wire fence between here and Canada and let the cold in. ::shiver::

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5926 comments I think I am going to start with

Faithless in Death which works for
F title
Will have ED - Eve Dallas and probably several other characters

Then moving onto
Deadline (Newsflesh, #2) by Mira Grant which I hope is Blue enough
Covers D
Character S - Shaun Mason

I only put down 2 books a week and assume there is a penalty for over reading so will try to stick at least one over 500 page book in

message 58: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments So… color cover question answered, but I just realized that even though my book has Space Opera as one of its top tags, that is still only 8, not the required 10, because so few people have read it. Ugh.

Maybe captains can run it through Captains Group in cases like this? I mean, this book is clearly a Space Opera. It’s a MPG on the new-style book page and presumably the old-style one too.

message 59: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 916 comments I'm going to wait and defer to Cat on this question. She's not just our captain, she's also one of the moderators, so I think she can carry it up the chain to where it needs to go a lot faster than I can.

I personally, would say that if it's an MPG that should count as a default 10 tag, but that's just MY opinion. I'll wait for the mods to rule.

@Marie, no cap this time - fast and furious instead, so don't worry if you overread!
@Alysa, Pat, no, it's 10 tags, not MPG, sorry. Sucks in this case , but sometimes we win with books being randomly tagged

message 62: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Darn. Well I’ll most likely read a different 10>tag Space Opera book, since the bonus is unlimited, and leave the blue covers to other people since we can only have 5.
I was excited about that book though! 😂

Sarah | 2131 comments Alysa wrote: "...and leave the blue covers to other people since we can only have 5..."

I am so doing this, since I like space opera and not every one does, and I may not be so excited for future genres or be able to read them exclusively that week.

♞ Pat Gent | 916 comments We dealt with a sick raccoon last night - probably distemper, but could have been rabid or hit by a car. It was dragging its hind end, obviously paralysed in the back legs. That's never a pleasant task, but allowing suffering is worse, and I have livestock and my dog to protect. The shotgun made things quick at least, but it took both hubby and I to get it done safely. I need to go out this morning in the daylight and dispose of the carcass. I'm not looking forward to THAT task either since the world outside is freezing cold this morning.

Otherwise I'm sitting in my recliner just twiddling my thumbs, waiting for 2 days, 7 hours, 47 minutes to pass.

Lucky me. I have a stack of books in arm's reach.

As well as something like that possibly can. We're getting snow, ice, rain, and below freezing temps here today. At this point, the ground is warm, so nothing is sticking, but ... we'll see what happens as the day goes along...

Ick. Welcome Winter -- hurry up and get it over with.

I don't know how much use this will be to anybody ...

Tracy Flick Can't Win by Tom Perrotta Tracy Flick Can't Win by Tom Perrotta (T)
This is the audible version - but the book is also on Scribd.
Lots of narrators that might help. Lucy Liu (L), Dennis Boutsikaris (D,B), Jeremy Bobb(B), Ali Andre Ali (A,A), Pete Simonelli (S)
MC is Tracy Flick (T, F)

Tineye confirms 72% blue.

There may be more, once I get into it later today. I know there are several significant characters. I'm just not sure who they are yet.

Completed on spreadsheet and shelved on my bookshelf.
11.14.22

It was a really quick read! Short chapters, short sentences, 288 pages. I know it's not a brilliant out of the box start, but I've been wanting to read it since early September, so now seemed as good a time as any.

Off to see what The Muse has in store. I know that there's a B author and an O main character.

There's also a Q if we need one for later.... but I don't think we can bank, can we?

No, books must be finished within that round to use.

And don't think any of our possible words has a q

Double-checked: there are a couple with Z in them, but that's the trickiest letter we risk getting

message 84: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10098 comments Mod
@Pat re Tracy - what version did you read? you mentioned 288 above, and have narrators on the list but have shelved a hardcover edition with 259 pages.

We can only use narrators if you listened to the audio (and shelve the audio). For page count we use the edition you read, except for audio which uses the default - so shelving the right edition is key!

message 85: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 916 comments Sorry -- that's bad on me.

I did the audible version with all the narrators. I'll go fix the shelf issue now.

Exciting news! There are two actual prizes on offer for this Wheel: one linked to BOMs and one for the overall winner.

I don't know how competitive we are all feeling....

For the main prize t would require reading as many longish books as possible, and maximising our bonus tags.
For the BOM it is all about participating in the two BOMs that take place during this Wheels - Apples Never Fall and If We Were Villains.

There's full info on the Announcements thread; let me know what clarifications you have after that
