Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father. After Mr Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.

IShita | 1803 comments This is my absolute favorite! I've been waiting to do a re-read, this sounds like the right time. Looking forward to revisiting this brooding, gory, dark place! Hope everyone loves this as much as I did :)

Roseanne I have never read it but I have had it on my kindle for a long time. I always seem to put it off for one reason or another. I am reading it this time!

I had read this one six or seven years ago. Didn't like it much, didn't even understand much at that time. I plan to read it again soon.

IShita | 1803 comments I basically love the book because I hated it so. And despite of what people say, I loved Heathcliff's characters. He's no less than a monster but underneath all of that, there's a man who's like the loudest cry for love! There are moments in this book when you actually get to know about his feelings but the very next moment he waves them off like they're not his own. Maybe not soft as cotton but definitely not hard as stone in the heart. It's actually these little moments in the book that makes it so much the better- if you really catch on them and understand them. And it's for the same reason that the ending- it broke my heart!

I think this is one book that made me fall in love with classics :)

IShita | 1803 comments Moshank- I haven't read Jane Eyre yet but that just bumped it up a few places on my list!
Classics are very demanding. Even the simplest of them demand all the attention you can give. And they're worth it! I've read quite a few controversial classics too but even the most talked down of them were totally worth it :)

Mary Chin (maryamdinzly) I've never read this book, but have always heard different kinds of stories about Healthcliff. Maybe I shall pick it up this month ;)

IShita | 1803 comments I don't think there is any book that can replace Wuthering Heights in my heart but I'm definitely reading Jane Eyre next month!

I'm not a literature student (which I think is super cool BTW! I wish to study English Lit. sometime in the future too) but I can say that it doesn't take a mastermind to figure out the difference between a contemporary and a classic. And you don't want to have me started on the writings! But you're right, let's leave this space for Wuthering Heights :)

Sara Naveed (sara-naveed) | 69 comments Wuthering Heights is one of the first novels I read back in 9th grade. I was absolutely devoured by its complex characters and intense story. I still remember having serious book crush on Heathcliff after reading this book.
It will always remain as one of my favorite classics!

I am terrible sorry that I could not say anything good about Wuthering Heights

Reksana (reksanamunshi1710) | 48 comments I read Wuthering heights a few years back. I loved it and I hated it! I couldn't get the characters, heathcliff and catherine. They were malicious and self-absorbed and dense. and yet I couldn't put it down. There were moments which I absolutely loved and enjoyed the whole gloomy, eerie feel of it . now that all the quotes and everything is through my head again I think I am going to re read it this month :)
