Cool! How long are the holds for on those books, Erin? A long time?

Krystal (krystallee6363) | 314 comments I'm setting up for a long slog with Our Share of Night, so that'll keep my busy! It's such a beautiful cover and it's rather intriguing.

Our Share of Night by Mariana Enríquez

I can keep them for a month but the holds can be extended as needed. I didn't realize The Priory of the Orange Tree was pretty lengthy. If any of these were new releases, they would only be good for two weeks with no extensions.

Anne | 623 comments So not sure where to ask this so maybe here? How do those with kindles sort your tbr? I don’t mean what categories but how do you actually accomplish it? Can you do it in Amazon in the library? I couldn’t figure it out and I’d love to organize into folders or something. Do you have to do it on the kindle? That seems difficult.

Just seeing this Anne. Sorry. Well you can add folders on kindles but it takes time. I don't know about folders on Amazon. The only thing you can do on Amazon if you are wanting to see what books you have by one author, etc. is go into your manage content and devices and you will get a list of all the books you have bought there. They have a search bar within that list where you can type the name of the author and everything you have bought from that author will come up.

As far as on the kindle device itself - you can add folders but it is tricky. Also I don't know if all kindles support the folders - I have a kindle fire so I am able to create folders. I have created folders by author last name and then I have to go back through my kindle and add the books by that author into the folder.

I thought it would be easier to use last name of author as on a kindle you can categorize all your books on there by author name or even book title.

What kind of kindle do you have? Do you have a kindle fire?

message 15: by Anne (new)

Anne | 623 comments @Marie I have a kindle paper white. I might update soon but for now that’s what I have. I can make folders, so maybe by author is my best bet. I’m realizing that my tbr is so long and I can’t keep track of what I want to get to. I choose my next read at random and often end up just picking something recent. Not the way to get through my looooong tbr! Thanks for the suggestion!

I have added shelves on here too Anne where I have shelves marked if I own them on kindle. Since I read a variety of genres then I have shelves according to genre on here so that I can keep better track of what I do own on my kindle.

For example: In horror I have a shelf labeled on here "horror tbr kindle own not read" which these are all the books I own on my kindle that I have not read yet. Then the horror books I have read on my kindle I have a shelf that says "kindle owned horror read".

That way I can go through my shelves on here to see what I want to read on my kindle.

But to make it easy for yourself with what books you want to read that you have on your kindle you can make shelves on here to reflect that as this site is excellent for getting books organized. I love the shelf system on here as it has helped me figure out what I have and what I need to read. :)

I have a paperwhite as well, and since I am usually a seasonal mood reader, I like to create collections/folders based on the time of year. Which reminds me, I ought to get working on spring and summer for this year. I think I'll try creating shelves in Goodreads for those and see if it's any less time consuming.

I dd create a few tags here on Goodreads for my seasonal TBRs and I definitely found it easier and less time consuming than doing it on my Kindle.

message 22: by Adrienne L (new)

Adrienne L I'm currently reading three books, including one short story collection, but once I finish those I think I want to get to Seed and either Maggie's Grave or The Forgotten Island. I like to read folk horror in spring, and I have a couple of other short story collections I'd like to get to as well.

I have shelves galore on here - lol. Way easier to create stuff over here than on a kindle. :)

Also you are able to do "batch edits" too on your shelves where if you were wanting to add books from one shelf to another you can highlight a few at a time and move them to another shelf without having to do each one individually. :)

Very cool, Krystal! Load up on reading his work and then see if you can snag a book auto by him when he comes to your store. :)

Sacha Rosel Hello @moderators, I'm not sure where to put this. Me and another member, @Vickie, would like to start a buddy read on The birds and other stories by Daphne Du Maurier. We've already planned both starting and finish date and mentioned it on the buddy read suggestions thread. How do we proceed now? Thank you.

Adrienne L To start of May, in honor of Mother's Day coming up, I've decided to read Mothered, Just Like Mother, and Mama. I also plan to pick up a couple of anthologies to start of the month, including A Different Darkness and Other Abominations and probably The Fiends in the Furrows: An Anthology of Folk Horror.

Fairy Tale by Stephen King
The Handyman Method by Nick Cutter

Always a fan of King's. I loved Nick Cutter's The Troop, good and gory and original, so am looking forward to The Handyman Method.

Adrienne L I gravitate towards anthologies and more Gothic type stuff in the colder months. Currently on my list of near-future reads are: Echoes, Gallows Hill, The Ancestor, The Daughters of Block Island, Old Farmhouses of the North, Christmas and Other Horrors: An Anthology of Solstice Horror, Theme Music, The Winter Spirits: Ghostly Tales for Frosty Nights, and Taaqtumi: An Anthology of Arctic Horror Stories. I also want to read the next book in the Bill Hodges Trilogy Finders Keepers, and maybe re-read Ghost Story.

Wow! You have quite a few you want to read, Adriennelee! I have Gallows Hill on my tbr - I own the book but haven't read it yet. The other books you have listed look interesting. I need to read the last book in the Bill Hodges trilogy (End of Watch). I read the other two already but it has been awhile. That book you listed: The Winter Spirits: Ghostly Tales for Winter Nights sounds good. I might add that one to my tbr. I like to read anthologies too.
