Here's some I have on my list:
Diana Wynne Jones (middle grade and young adult fantasy)
Darynda Jones (paranormal romance)
Danielle L. Jensen (fantasy romance)

If you're willing to reverse the initials, there's a few more options:
J.R. Dawson (fantasy/historical)
Jen DeLuca (romance)
Jennifer Donnelly (historical, YA fantasy)

JessicaMHR | 576 comments Jayasoorya wrote: "Any recommendations for JK? or JR?"

I had a hard time with this as well. JR is a surprisingly hard one.

I ended up going with the new one by Jeneva Rose, whom I had never heard of before but, found at the store on one of my searches through the book section.

I ended up liking the book and read it rather quickly.

message 319: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 698 comments I just finished One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose this week. It earned a solid three out of five stars from me, being enjoyable enough for a single read but probably not two.

message 320: by Lilith (new)

Lilith (lilithp) | 1073 comments I used my Mi'kmaq name and my unmarried last name, so i got to read Emma In the Night by Wendy Walker.
"Enjoy" is a weird word to use for essentially heavy subject matter, so maybe I appreciated the novel, the characters, the story. All pretty much dead on. Wendy Walker knows her stuff!

Natalie Younger (nmuels) | 5 comments If anyone has any ideas for the initials NY, I'm all ears. I read a little bit of everything.

All I've come up with is Nicola Yoon, but would love some other options. (I'll read YA and I'll read Romance but I'm not really in the mood for a YA Romance at the moment).

[I COULD switch to NM, but even then I can only think of Nicholas Meyer or Naomi Mitchison and I wouldn't know where to start with either one of them.]

there's not really much to choose from for NY, a lot of these authors look fairly obscure, except Neon Yang.

Neon Yang
Neil Young (I had no idea he'd written a memoir!!!)
Noson S. Yanofsky

Ninit Yunita
Nancy Yi Fan (I guess this one doesn't really count)
Noa Yedlin
Nicole Young
Nicole York / Nicole York
Nel Yomtov
Ng Yi-Sheng
Natasha Yim (picture books)

NM - there are a lot more NMs! I got tired of pasting in names, there are a lot more than this ...
Nikki May
Nick Medina
Norman Mailer
Ngaio Marsh
Nelson Mandela
Nora McInerny
N. Scott Momaday
Niccolò Machiavelli
Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai
Norman Maclean
Nadia Murad
Natalie Mae
Naguib Mahfouz
Nancy Mitford
Nora Murphy
Nadine Matheson
Neil MacGregor
Nicola May
Nancy Milford

Thanks for the help - yeah NY has proved challenging compared to NM, but I really wanted to try to stick to my actual initials lol. I was excited to remember Nicola Yoon, but Neon Yang is a lil more my vibe from the looks of their work. Also thank you for reminding me about that Neil Young autobio/memoir!

Someone already recommended Tom Sweterlitsch, I'll second that recommendation and give you the specific book of The Gone World. One of my favorite reads last year, though it is dark. It's a SciFi-crime-thriller. MC is like...time traveling FBI.
