For three months, Lyric Walker has been trapped in the hunting grounds, the Alpha city at the bottom of the ocean. But Lyric Walker, Brooklyn girl, is not going down without a fight. She makes an unlikely alliance with her jailor, a Rusalka named Husk. Husk reveals the truth about what actually resides in the Great Abyss. The Great Abyss is not some Alpha god but belongs to an unknown clan of monsters, ones who think in a hive mentality and believe anyone who cannot hear their voice is broken and must be destroyed. And Lyric has just woken them.

After a death-defying escape, Lyric makes her journey back to the mainland to prepare humanity for another monster invasion. Once reunited with her parents, Bex, and hot-nerd-with-potential Riley, Lyric has to break the terrible truth.

Lyric was just a girl when the Alpha arrived in her hometown. She was a soldier in the second attack that saved her world. What will she have to become now, and who will she have to leave behind?

I’m still shocked they felt comfortable while prisoners to even have sex but I guess all those pent up emotions gotta come out somehow. Her mom is really awesome but oh man her dad is gonna go bonkers especially when fathom returns. (hide spoiler)]

Fathom walks in, talking about finding some clue, some trail, looking down at something, and doesn't see her sitting at the table at first. Everyone is silent and he looks up, seeing her. Finished (view spoiler)[hmm I kinda liked and didn’t like the end. I think it was a smart choice to actually have Lyric and fathom be on their own for a bit. She most of all needed to grow up and he needed to learn to rule with compromise. Both needed to put being parents before themselves but I’m sorry the kid is three bs just then meeting is dad? He lives in the ocean not on another planet? I don’t get this. What I really don’t like is how little we get to know about the entire WORLD in the after. Crazy wild series that I really enjoyed, just wish for once the government/military/corporations will stop ruining everything. And didn’t she use her mind to get rid of the bad guys-something she mentioned to them all as a possibility. Why not just have started the battle mind f*cking them, could have saved many lives. Yea it even says three months in the blurb but I swear they kept changing the timeline. Agree about the end, not the best but overall a good trilogy!

Finished. (view spoiler)[ I'm okay with her and Fathom not necessarily getting together. While I wanted them too, I applaud the author from straying from the typical YA norm. I love how she named the baby Max. What I don't like, was the fight and the ending. All that and she suddenly used the baby's power to connect and kill them? That was a little lazy in writing. But, overall, this was a great series. (hide spoiler)]
