Does one have to read the series in chronological order or can I read "A wizard of earth sea" directly? I don't mind reading the whole series but I've had this book unread for ages in my shelves and I didn't know until a year ago or so that it was in a series.

Enjoy.

Nike | 482 comments I'm off to a good start for once. I've finished my first book for this year and it's actually one of the books on my Bingo Board. Maybe I'll succeed in focusing on the Bingo this year? Well, it's Serotonin by Michel Houellebecq for N 3 Free choice and it might very well be a future classic considering all the literary awards he gets.

message 24: by Nike (new)

Nike | 482 comments And so I've finally finished my reading for prompt O2 New-to-me classic author: Occasion for Loving by Nobel Prize Laureate Nadine Gordimer.

This book started out very interesting indeed but the style in which is written became tedious as the story went along. Too bad, since it is an important story about love between a white woman and black man in a time in South Africa when it was forbidden.

Well, it's not one of her most famous works but it happened to stand in my shelves. I'm still inclined to read her most famous book Burger's Daughter

message 25: by Wobbley (new)

Wobbley | 2517 comments I've also read a book by Nadine Gordimer (July's People in my case), and I had basically the exact same response: it had promise, but was too long for its content and got a bit boring. Hopefully her most famous book is better...

message 26: by Cynda (new)

Cynda | 5196 comments Nike, glad to see you too will be reading Around the World. Maybe that means you will join the buddy read. Hope to see you there!

Oh, I've missed this comment. I was reading it, and was joining the buddy read at first but then I never found where the thread again so I never wrote anything about it. (It was a disappointment however).

Nike | 482 comments I've been late updating my reading but it looks pretty good compared to other years! There are two prompts I won't read and that is Classic Western and Classic Biography. (Unless one can interpret Western another way than I've done. I thought it was about the Wild West with "Cowboys and Indians" but in the listopias I've found classic literature from West Europe so if there is an alternative interpretation I can probably check that off my list). I wanted to read Fools Crow and The Autobiography by Gandhi but I won't have enough time. That's okay, this is the best year so far when it comes to filling my bingo card 🙂
