Bea | 430 comments Finished Ghost Talkers and Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti

Ready to start Week #44: The Last Illusion. I am back on track!

I might even finish ATY after all.

Barbara (soulflame1) | 128 comments Just finished Week #47. A book related to a geometric shape. Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead. Excellent read! Five more left. Never thought I would be able to stick with reading in order, but I did. :-) Probably won't do it again next year though.

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 566 comments I'm catching up on posting .. We started a simple house project early summer that has turned into a whole house reno (paint, new floors, new kitchen cabinets, etc) so I've been very distracted/exhausted this year ... but now I have new floors and new couches and a lovely comfy cozy place to finish out this years reads :D We just got our first snowfall and I am so ready for hibernation mode!! LOL

Anyway ... I love reading in order. I find I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed when choosing books. There are just so many I want to read. So focusing on the next prompt helps me decide with less decision fatigue. I will read in order again next year, with rare exceptions made to juggle library holds.

I'm fairly on track for this year. I mixed up where I was and started #48 instead of #46 but I'm enjoying it, so sticking with it. I'll go back and continue on with 46 next. Oh, I and I skipped the Western prompt so I will have to figure that out.
#1-#44 - complete.

November
#45 - The Secret History (done)
#46 - A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking
#47 - Every Last Fear OR The Atlas Paradox (undecided, I have both)
#48 - The Kaiju Preservation Society (currently reading)

I got October done early but I haven't finished any of November's prompts yet. I'm hoping to get ahead so I'm not down to the wire at the end of December.

message 306: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1837 comments My October plan changed for a couple of the prompts, I DNF'd my first choice for week 41 and then I had to change book 43 when one of my book clubs picked their book. Here's what I ended up reading:

40. A book with a full name in the title - The Haunting of Maddy Clare
41. A book from the NPR “Books We Love” lists - House of Hunger
42. A book related to a ghost, spirit, phantom, or specter - The House on Tradd Street
43. A book that involves a murder - Still Life
44. A book where the cover design includes text that is not completely horizontal - The Fangs of Freelance

I'm also ahead for November, I have already finished week 45 and am working on week 46.

45. A book whose author has published more than 7 books - Cujo
46. A title that contains a word often found in a recipe - The Lost Art of Mixing
47. A book related to a geometric shape - Great Circle
48. A book with an unusually large version of an animal in the story - Remarkably Bright Creatures

For December I've done some rearranging, like I did for October, so I can read holiday books. It may mean reading out of order but I'm okay with that since it's still within the month, which was my goal.

Bea | 430 comments Finished #44 The Last Illusion

November books:
#45 A Distant View of Everything starting
#46 A Dash of Salt and Pepper on hold
#47 The Stone Circle on desk
#48 The Kaiju Preservation Society not yet requested

For December, I have books planned and am sure of the ones for week #49 and week #50. However the last two are possibles only. I will probably pick something else unless I feel more sure of my planned lists.

Sue S | 555 comments My books for November:
44. A book where the cover design includes text that is not completely horizontal: Willowman - reading now
45. A book whose author has published more than 7 books: To the Land of Long Lost Friends
46. A title that contains a word often found in a recipe: The Covenant of Water
47. A book related to a geometric shape: The Circle of Reason
48. A book with an unusually large version of an animal in the story: Moby Dick (will I finish this? It will be my 3rd attempt!)

message 309: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 566 comments 2 books to go! I've kept things mostly in order, and close to the book per week I intended, but I did read a couple early and fast so I'm down to two books left.

Currently finishing up my Western that I kept putting off choosing, and then had to wait for my library hold. Open Season It's Western-ish and I'm enjoying it so far.

And then I just have one last book (#51The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi) to read to complete this years challenge. When I listened to Sh*t my Dad says for an earlier read-a-thon, I slotted this into #52 because it was too perfect for unusual/surprising!!

I'm happy with my reading in order, I mostly stuck to the weekly plan and only intentionally got a bit ahead because I wasn't sure how much reading I'd have time for in December.

I'm planning on reading in order (with exceptions made to juggle library holds) again next year!!

Wising everyone the best in finishing up your challenges over the next few weeks.

This is the same for me! I'm currently reading my unusual title, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, because I wanted to finish it before I start my Christmas reads. Weeks 50 and 51 both are Christmas books that I'll read at some point during December.

Bea | 430 comments I am behind again. I haven't started last week's selection (#47) yet, although it is on my bedside. (I have been trying to complete a BIG BOOK (over 600 pages) before it's due date tomorrow.)

My selection for #48 (The Kaiju Preservation Society) has been requested but is not yet available.

My December plan (all books requested):
#49: All Systems Red
#50: Magic Shifts
#51: Suddenly a Murder - This is a NEW book and is currently being catalogued. Hopefully the wait list is not too long.
#52: The Trouble with Goats and Sheep - On my desk and due 12/2. I will read this one out of order but in month planned, just so I finish this challenge.

message 312: by Bea (last edited Dec 08, 2023 02:21AM) (new)

Bea | 430 comments I am a little behind (just starting the last two for November but will be reading them concurrently). I am still waiting for #49 to come into the library. Weeks #50 and #51 are on my desk waiting to be read and I have already posted #52.

Despite not fully reading on the week the book was due, I will be finishing this year's challenge. So excited!

message 313: by Bea (new)

Bea | 430 comments The end is in sight!

Starting December today. Have 3 books left since I read #52 early in December. (It had to go back to the library!)

message 314: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 555 comments I am also on track, after a couple of glitches. Still have 3 to read for the challenge but no restrictions now except for Christmas
Eve and Christmas Day, so expect to finish with no issues despite the fact that my last two books are long...
Still to read:
50 - The Performance
51 - Return to Valetto
52 - Illywhacker
All Australian!

message 315: by Bea (new)

Bea | 430 comments Starting my last book! Loved trying to read one a week for this challenge. Thanks for this idea.

message 316: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 555 comments I have finished! I did switch out the last book for a shorter one that came up suddenly. For most of the year I read strictly by the week, but had a few blips along the way when stuck on a very long book or travelling interstate. Will be doing the same next year - it works very well for me

message 317: by Jackie, Solstitial Mod (new)

Jackie | 2452 comments Mod
I finished! I liked doing it by month, where the prompts for that month could be done in any order but I couldn't move on past them until that month was done. I would recommend that as a strategy for people wanting to go in order but still have flexibility.

message 318: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1837 comments I will be starting my last book as well. I went all kinds of out of order and read ahead this month but that's okay. Excited to do it again next year and already planning my books for January.
