For me, if you want a more relevant dystopia about the apathy of the majority, try Fahrenheit 451. It's not only a contrast to a book like 1984 but also less grim.

Josephine Harris | 3 comments You've probably read Orwell's 'Animal Farm', and you have to read 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy and 'They" by Kay Dick'. I also found the movie 'Blade Runner' very dark. Enjoy!

Stacey (staceypelesky) | 2 comments I recommend reading The China Pandemic by AR Shaw or Roger’s War for adult books. For YA or teens I would say Lord of the Flies or Animal Farm

message 9: by Gayle (new)

Gayle | 6 comments Those are all really dark recommendations. My favorites are the Lunar Series by Marissa Meyer, The Hunger Game trilogy, Divergent series and the Uglies series. So much more enjoyable dystopian than the darkness of 1984, Brave New World, the Road etc.

James Joseph | 6 comments I suggest you read Antunites Unite by Terry Birdgenaw
It's been called 1984/Brave New World for the modern age.
Since it's book 3 of a trilogy, you might like also to read the first two books Antuna's Story and The Rise and Fall of Antocracy
