Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 31 comments Hi everybody! Although I have not as much time to read as I would like (you know, busy job, husband, things to do, places to go...) I managed to read over a 100 books in 2022.

So, I will set my goal for 2023 somewhere between 76 and 100 and see how it goes. In 2022 I've read 44 books for Netgalley and 7 for Edelweiss. All other books were re-reads or books I bought myself.

For starters, I bought Go Tell the Bees that I am Gone, part 9 in the Outlander series. It's 900 pages... This will keep me occupied during the holidays, I think.

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments That's a great accomplishment, Jannelies. Congratulations on the 111 ( so far).

I hope you have as great a reading year in 2023!

Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 31 comments Thank you Lisa. I was lucky to have a little more time lately so I finished more books.

Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 31 comments I managed to finish Go Tell the Bees that I am gone just before the end of 2022. After that, I needed something short and simple so I finished a Daniel Hurst book, on my list for Netgalley 2023. I'm currently halfway the latest Pendergast, also for Netgalley.

I will also try and read some of the books I bought for myself in 2021 and 2022. On my list is the Archie Sheridan series; I've read the whole series in print but somehow the first book is missing. I treated myself to the complete series on my Kindle. Also high on my list is the complete Lars Kepler series - although I still have to buy some of the books.

TerryJane | 4028 comments Jannelies, I hope you're finding time to read some good books this year. Looks like you're well on your way to reaching your GR goal.

Happy reading!

Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 31 comments Hi TerryJane, thanks for your message! Well, things have changed a little... First of all I had to undergo unexpected eye surgery. I'm still recovering and therefore reading and working on a screen are quite difficult.
I now have a subscription to Storytel but I discovered I just don't like audiobooks. It's way to slow for me. I listened to a couple of nice books with nice readers but now I'm trying to read as much as I can with just one healthy eye on my phone screen because that is so much smaller.
Anyway, I listened to The Spin by Lars Kepler. And I was severely disappointed. Maybe it was because I listened to a translation, but it is in fact not as written as well as I always thought and it is again revolving around the same killer again.
I don't think I will buy the other books now ;-(
Anyway, I hope my eye will be better soon because I have a lot of reviews to write...
Best regards, Jannelies

Sorry to hear about your eye surgery interfering with your reading. I almost exclusively read audiobooks because my eyes fatigue very quickly when focusing on print. I'm eyeball reading one for my book club at a rate of a chapter or two per day using the Kindle app on my phone.

Usually, I borrow audiobooks from the library and play them through an app that allows me to change the playback speed. That way, I can adjust for too slow or too fast narration, accents, etc. Depending on the speed of your recovery, perhaps something like that could help.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. 🤗🙏🏻

Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 31 comments I've just started reading my last review book for 2023. And I'm happy to say that although my eye will never recover, I've learned that I can read rather good with one eye, as long as the used font is not too small.
Unfortunately this means I have hundreds of printed books I will never be able to read anymore, but fortunately I have my trusted Kindle app. There is still hope.
I think I will set my goal for 2024 somewhat higher than I did for 2023.
