When Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), goes home to Connecticut to attend the funeral of his best friend and sister-in-law Sara he is shocked to find that his brother Greg has become addicted to pills and that he has designated Patrick as his kids guardian for the next 3 months as he undergoes rehab. Patrick loves Maisie, 9 and Grant, 6, as a visiting uncle but is skeptical of being a responsible parent. Patrick is also a semi-recluse in Palm Springs, CA and a former TV star who has withdrawn from much of society with the end of his show and the earlier death of his lover, Joe, by a drunk driver.

He treats the kids as mini adults at times, not filtering his language or content, often leaving them confused but learning a lot about life.

This story has moments of LOL incidents as he deals with the kids and others as tearful sadness as he deals with both his grief and the kids. Highly recommended.
