This thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Many thanks.

Sophie | 1126 comments Happy New Year everybody!

Hope you all had a restful holiday break, ate and drank too much and read lots of great books!

message 3: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Happy new year!!! I sure did Sophie. Except the drinking - I am pregnant again. But made up for it in food :)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Happy New Year all......Been suffering from chest cold since Christmas....I could use a stiff drink about now. I prefer wine.

Sophie | 1126 comments Oh wow, congratulations Dana, that's super exciting news! Do you know what you're having yet? (That's if you even want to know)

Sorry to hear that you are unwell Patricia. Over here there seems to be a "Christmas flu" going around - a lot of my work colleagues said they were ill with it over Christmas. My parents both had bad chests too. I hope you feel better soon - I always find hot tea works wonders for my chest whenever I get chest infections

message 7: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Thank you Sophie. I am enjoying a hot cup of coffee right now. It seems to help. What is the weather like now in the UK? It is in the 30’s in Western Kentucky.

message 8: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Ugh. I have a chest cold right now and am not enjoying the feeling. Congratulations Dana!

message 9: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Thank you! Not yet, in a couple weeks hopefully. Secretly hoping for another girl, I always wanted a sister myself...

Hope everyone feels better soon - such an awful feeling :( Maybe you have more downtime for reading??

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Happy New Year everyone!
Sophie, instead of eating and drinking too much I decided this year to spend most of the week in bed sleeping - didn't get nearly enough sleep the ten days I spent with my family before and during Christmas :-D

Congratulations Dana!

I'd that nasty bug at the beginning of December and agree fully with Kirsten, nothing you'll ever need and want to deal with. Anyway I hope all of you will get better soon!

Ugh. Yes, feels like it's taken up residence in my throat. Nasty.

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I just finished A Hard Day for a Hangover. I highly recommend that you should read this series from book one, This is book three so I struggled attempting to familiarize myself with the characters, The ending was pretty good though.

So sorry guys, in my head I had done the February threads!!!

Ooops!! I have duly posted them now.

Happy selecting and reading!

Jx

message 15: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) No problem! I'd quite forgotten too. Too distracted by the chest cold that will not leave!

message 16: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments A couple days ago I finished my January read, The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty unique in the "mystery" genre.

I generally stay away from ghost stories (I get nightmares!) but this one was worth it.

Have you read The Sun Down Motel and The Broken Girls too? Those are excellent

message 18: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments No!! They do look very interesting - I think I will try them too if you recommend.

message 19: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Yes, do try them. That's how I got hooked on this author.

BookishDramas (sanjibkd) | 1282 comments The Candy House
The Candy House by Jennifer Egan
Jennifer Egan

One of the anticipated books of last year, Not a disappointment but more of a book that did not reach the potential that its premise projected.

3 stars for me

I read a book by Caroline Cooney before. It was called Code Orange. I really liked it.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I finished The Scholar (Cormac Reilly, #2) by Dervla McTiernan The Scholar this morning. It was on Audible Plus so I also got the excellent narration by Aoife McMahon.

I had previously listened to The Ruin so I knew I liked the style and the detective, but this one was even better than book #1. I highly recommend it!
