Never too Late to Read Classics discussion
Children's Classics Buddy Reads

Which children's classics are you reading now?

Starting the third one today.
Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery
I've just finished the last of the Adventure series, The River of Adventure. It was fun but not as good as the others in the series, which I really enjoyed a lot.

I discovered them as free classic kindle ebooks. I think if you dig, they will be on Amazon or the Project Gutenberg website.
Jenna
I’m listening to From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, one of my childhood favorites.
I've just finished The Grey King by Susan Cooper and will shortly begin the final book in the series, Silver on the Tree.

Later in the year I want to get to Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh by Robert C. O'Brien

I was also going to add The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier to this year's book list but it looks like it is not available at my library physically nor digitally and is not on Everand, so I don't have access to it currently.

I've started The Good Master by Kate Seredy and am enjoying it so far.
This edition has lovely illustrations.

Are there any 2025 plans for the children's classics section of this group?

I do not think Rosemarie has anything planned. You can request a Buddy Read of course if there is one you are interested in for others comments. Otherwise I believe it is just commenting and sharing.

Michelle, Lesle is correct, but as she also stated, we can set up a Buddy Read any time.
Enjoy your book-I really enjoyed it.

In 2025 I have The Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren on my tbr for January and Pippi Longstocking for later in the year. I have access to a few other of Astrid Lindgren's works through Everand or my library as well.
I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in doing a buddy read of Astrid Lindgren's children's works for 2025?
It looks like for a buddy read suggestion you're already supposed to have a buddy in the works, which I don't.

Michelle I am sure that there will be ones that want to read along with you. As I would like to read the original book in the series.

Michelle, I'm sure others will join you in a buddy read. We're a relaxed group so once we open the thread, members will join in when they have time.
It sounds like a great choice for a buddy read!

If you think there would be interest, I would like to suggest that as a buddy read topic for this group. Would I need to post that request in another thread?
The intro to her Wikipedia page has a much better/more interesting overview of her life and works than the Goodreads author page (at least the one in English).
This is the right place for a children's buddy read request, Michelle. I'll be setting it up here as well, next year-in two days!

Oh yeah, I love that book and movie!

I really enjoyed the book, gave it 5 stars. It was great read to end my reading year.

Have you read The Mouse and His Child? That's a great book and kind of similar.

I have not, but I just added it to my to-read. Thanks for the suggestion!

In the old days, there was no Young Adult classification the way we have now. Then it meant that 13 or 14 year olds would not be bored reading it!
It's great for all ages!
I'm going to be rereading it shortly. I loved it!
Right now I'm reading Carney's House Party / Winona's Pony Cart to be followed by Emily of Deep Valley by Maud Hart Lovelace.
I've read all of her Betsy-Tacy books. They're fun.

Glad to hear you loved it! I've watched the movie many times, but never gotten around to the book.
The book inspired the movie, so you'll notice some differences. The book is funny, and charming.

It is definitely charming so far. It's not laugh-out-loud funny, but it has made me smile multiple times at the humor. So far I'm really enjoying it!

That was a group read a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it.

I thought it was his best novel other than the Oz books, of the ones I’ve read.

I haven't read that one yet. I need to add it to my list.

I love the book and the sequel is wonderful too."
