Booknblues | 12082 comments I received this today:

https://www.bookbub.com/blog/most-wis...

And it got me wondering what everyone's wishlist looks like?
What are your top 5 or 10?
Do you even keep one or is it the same as your tbr?

Theresa | 15536 comments I actually have several wishlists and they are NOT necessarily filled with books on the TBR.

I have a Wishlist Shelf on PBT that currently is in sad need of editing. This list is primarily for books either I want to own but don't want to pay the current price, or are not yet out, or are a longterm acquisition desire, or are there to remind me what I want to pick up next time I'm in a bookstore. All those books show on the TBR because that's just how GR works

I have several on Amazon and most of those books are NOT on the TBR:

Gifts for others -- books that might be good gifts for family and friends or they have expressed interest in owning.
My Gift Wishlist -- the only public list on Amazon as it's for friends and family to use to give me presents. It has books I want to own (and it has other things on it) all in a price range my family and friends can afford. There are several books on this list that I have read in ebook or from library but now want a print copy, and usually a specific format. There are also special limited or anniversary editions on that list some times. It's a list that is updated regularly.
Kindle wishlist -- generally just books that have caught my eye or are reminders of authors I might like to check out - lots and lots and lots of cozy mystery series here plus regency romance. I also have a similar Nook/Barnes and Noble one or 3. Periodically I go through and delete many because no longer appeal or I read them.
Vacation - I like to read fiction or travelogues set in places I'm planning to vacation. Right now alas there is nothing on that wishlist.

One thing that happens is that there are a large number of expensive books listed on any one of these wishlists. When I get gift cards I often make a point of using them to buy one or more of these expensive books -- some are more reference or coffeetable books, others just topics that interest me -- like needlework and handcraft -- but are just expensive illustrated books that I don't necessarily read cover to cover but dip into.

Oh and there are OOP books on these lists too and a separate list I consult when I'm in used and rare book shops. For example, I have pSue Grafton's first 3 books - all autographed to me - but I'd like to get my hands on hardcovers that are not BOTM club editions (which is how I first discovered her -- B is for Burglar and C is for Corpse) or a mass market paperback (A is for Alibi).

~*Kim*~ (greenclovers75) I have an Amazon wishlist of books I'd like to read. I recently looked and it's over 600 books. LOL! Doubt I'll ever get to them all. I remove some from time to time if I see the rating has gone down since I added it, or if I feel I'd no longer be interested in the book. I don't have a top #. I just go through it when I'm looking for my next book to see what fits my mood at the time.

Tracy (tstan) | 1261 comments I also have an Amazon wishlist set up for books- they even have out of print books, so when I go to a used bookstore, I can pull the list on my phone and see if I can find a gem.

I have several books on the list, but I try to cull it often- otherwise I may either end up with duplicates or a messy list!

Robin P | 5757 comments I don't keep a wish list on Amazon but I have one on Audible. I try to keep it to 20 books or fewer. On GR, I have Want to Read, which is several hundred books, and includes some I definitely want to read and some that just sounded interesting at one time. Both lists help when there is a sale, whether of ebooks, audiobooks, or physical books. Once I acquire a book, whether purchase or library, I remove it from the Wish List/Want to Read. I have been close to purchasing the same book twice, especially when the cover is different.

Theresa | 15536 comments My OOP list predates GR, smartphones, and most apps. I think it predates Amazon, certainly Amazon wishlists. It currently resides in a memo/checklist app that does not require more than just opening the app and tapping the list in the alphabetical index as my phone is locked anyway when not in use due to work email coming in on it.

OOP list has grown over the years but mostly shrunk thanks to ebook publishing of so many authors and series. Not everything on that list requires locating or owning a print copy if a digital one pops up.

Booknblues | 12082 comments I have several Amazon wishlists and they are really to keep track of books, I see that I might want to read.

I try to cull it and did a massive cull last year and will probably again in January.

Here are my most recently added to my generic list

The Littlest Library
Stories from the Tenants Downstairs
The Colors of All the Cattle
Courting Dragons
Trespasses
Small Pleasures
Intimacies
The Wall
If I Survive You
Rachel to the Rescue

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11074 comments I like BookBubs. It’s fun to get an email with a $1.99 sale on a newish book I want to read. I only sporadically add books, but I follow authors I like.

I don’t browse Amazon books anymore, so my list there is outdated. I was really diligent (for 2-3 years) in sticking to my resolution to stop buying books, and my Amazon wish list became my library search list.

My audible wish list has books that are not on any of my Goodreads lists and vice versa. I am undisciplined when it comes to adding books that strike my fancy, but it works for me. My tastes are changing, I need variety, and I like to have options for tags or challenges that might come up.

Most of the books on my Subdue the Shelf list will come from my Audible library and Goodreads lists.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8419 comments Don't keep a wishlist at all. I only buy a small handful of hardcover first editions each year ... favorite authors ... mostly literary fiction. Virtually every book I read comes from the library.

Joy D | 10100 comments I keep a wishlist of Audible audiobooks that I cannot find anywhere else, but I've never made a list for books in hardcover. No one in my immediate family reads, and the only one who has ever bought me a physical book is my nephew. (His picks were actually quite good, given his limited knowledge of my reading interests.)

I loved Intimacies, The Wall, and If I Survive You. Hope you can get hold of them at some point! Now you have me researching the others, lol.

Robin P | 5757 comments My "want to read" list doesn't mean I will buy them, I do get a lot from the library. But if they are on ebook for under a dollar or two, I might pick them up. The other books I buy are nonfiction that I use for my talks on historical figures (they are tax deductible since I get paid for the talks.) Generally I will need those books over a longer period. When I visit independent bookstores in various towns, I always try to buy something to support them (at least I say that is why!)

KateNZ | 4100 comments I don’t compile additional wish lists - my Goodreads TBR is quite enough, thanks to you lot. Anything else would just encourage me to buy more!

message 14: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12580 comments No wish list here either, like Tessa 99% of my books come from the library
