About 2020, I found an amazing thrift shop with a great used book section. Enough that I can come out with 15 books routinely. I'll count what I own before 2023 as I can't remember when I got them as they're still in bags and once read, are re-donated (unless it's part of my collection, then it stays). But they are definitely starting to pile.
Progress: 5/10
1. The Neverending Story by Michael Ende (fantasy)
2. Persuasion by Jane Austen (Classic Literature)
3. The Empty Crown by Rosemary Edghill (fantasy)
4. The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz (supernatural)
5. Martha Peake: A Novel of the Revolution by Patrick McGrath (historical fiction)

For this challenge I'm going to count any audiobook, ebook, or physical book that I have purchased before and started after Jan 1, 2023 . My year goal is 110 books so I think 45 will be good for this challenge.

Oh, you are precious! Bless your heart.
I remember when I used to tell myself those things. Now I just hope to get my list below quadruple digits some day.

Thanks!

Oh my, you do have a love of books! I think it's great.
This challenge has pushed me to read some books that have been languishing on my bookshelves for years and the great thing is I've enjoyed most of them.
I hope it helps you too. Have a great time reading all those wonderful books. :)

The Ceremonies"
I think that's a very perfect book, Char. In fact we did a buddy read on it, I think last year, here on HA and it was a re-read for me, it was even better than the first time. Enjoy!
Note that I'm not even mentioning my own TBR challenge and that's all I'm going to say.

The Ceremonies"
This book has a permanent place on my All-Time Top 10 Horror Novels list. It's that good.

YAY! (I know I read it, but I honestly don't remember it now....) I am not helping my own TBR because I suddenly feel the need to reread it....

Good luck on the challenge!
But I have to tell you that here at HA we're going to do everything we can to see that list of horror books grow and grow and grow... ya know, kinda like the Blob did throughout the wonderfully campy '50s movie. :) lol

Thanks Wendy, and yeah, I don't need much encouragement on that list 😂!

When you get to 500 or more, we'll start posting more lists of books you "missed"!! LOL!

Inci and Christopher: I absolutely adored The Ceremonies.
Today, I'm starting another that has been on my list for decades:

For this challenge I am one book behind, even though I thought I could easily do one book a month.
I am now stepping up my game and reading The Hunger and Last Days and hope to soon finish my The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy so I can finally put a sunbstantial dent in that mount tbr.

DAMNED - Chuck Palahniuk

I'm behind in this challenge despite my best efforts, which admittedly haven't been all that good this year. Too many new books have distracted me and too many good books being chosen for group reads are keeping me from the books gathering dust on the shelves.
But dang... I'm having a really good time anyway!

I second that response!

Wish I was as disciplined as you lol! I have a hard time not buying new books that sound interesting!

I swore I would not buy anymore books. If I added all the (unread) books sitting on my kindle to my Goodreads TBR list, the internet might explode! But I still find myself hitting that "buy now with one click" button.
Seriously. I should be taken out to the woodshed and whipped!
Edited to add: Oh yeah, and KU is the DEVIL!!!!😈

Lol yes!

I too told myself I wouldn't buy new books, so I've been getting lots of review copies, lol. It doesn't count as buying, though. I still have been reading a lot of new stuff and not my physical books tbr as I thought I would.

Yeah, those beautiful covers...
Kimberly wrote: "I failed. I buy new books all the time--those "shiny new" covers get me every time! LOL!"
You do pick out books with awesome covers. :)

I entered three of the challenges in here this year and most of the books I have been reading are just for HA challenges. So I have been rotating my reads or reading two or three books at once for each challenge. lol I am committed to finishing all three challenges. :)
I set my goal at 30 books but have only read 9 so far. Not good.
But there are 6 months left to the year so who knows...

I've gotten 19/25, but considering many of them were 2022/2021 purchases, it honestly isn't whittling that pile down all that much. Add in the number of books ADDED to the TBR already, and we're well into triple digits, if not more.... LOL!

I don't even want to think about how many books I've bought this year... nope, nope, nope. Did I mention my trip to a used bookstore yesterday where I traded in two big bags of books and returned home with 10 more books to add to the piles? ...I'm kinda proud of that actually. :) heehee
